Used to like it but I just can’t take their absolute adoration of referees and every single shit decision they inadvertently will defend. They actually blamed arsenal for getting Mason fired and after Newcastle the vitriol they had against Arteta… I just deleted it. Which is too bad because apart the referee nonsense they are a decent podcast but they talk about it as if the check was in the mail every single week.

While I have been saying it’s the refs not VAR, if you listen to the VAR review of the Newcastle vs arsenal goal that PGMOL just released, its a hilarious cacophony of ineptitude, but most of all - three decisions aren’t made because of lack of camera angles. Seriously. So the tech is clearly also a problem (in the PL anyway)

The premier league has already crossed this line by importing refs from Australia, although they had to completely relocate and only ref here etc.

Refereeing in the premier league needs to be completely redone form the ground up. Much higher salaries and therefore higher expectations on fitness and knowledge and education, VAR should be independently done and not by refs who also work pitch side.

This is going to happen soon either way as several refs will leave, under the excuse of persecution, for the big money in the Saudi league. On the face of it it is ridiculous that a ref keeps control of players who some make more in a day or two than they make in a year.
