You mean “American-owned” brands? There are lots of cars made in America/Canada not from “American” brands.

Those aren’t narratives – those viewpoints were based on factual trends.

Honda lost their ways

Last few years, Honda has been fluttering on the edge of top-5 – either way outside it thanks to the 1.5T problems or right at #5. This is a pretty big drop from being #1 or #2 for a long time. Again, they’re stuck at #5.

Mazda eclipsing Toyota

Mazda was ahead in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022. Toyota finally climbed back in 2023 and now “2024” (this is the latest ranking).

Hyundai killing it

If you’ve spent time here, you’ve clearly seen the opposite of those sentiments.

I see a lot of other EVs these days. Mustang Mach-E, Kona, Ariya, Lightning.

I both love and hate the 15 yr rule at the same time.

Plus whooshy turbo noises and low-end torque which is more suited for daily driving.

Golf R was 60k km and I think our CX-5 is as well. That’s like 40k miles. Welcome to high compression turbo engines.

The base model does 0-60 in 3.2 seconds thanks to insane PDK and launch control with just RWD. That’s good for a stock 11.5 quarter mile on their base model.

It pulls 1.08 g on the skidpad … anything over like 1.05 g is usually reserved for the most aggressive track versions of cars.

Oh and it has a luxury interior.

Sure it’s a lot of money, but you’re getting a lot in the package.
