21·1 day agoOkay buddy, you are way overthinking this. I’m not trying to create the next change.org here. The scope of this is a petition to put a stop sign on main street and get maybe 50 people to sign on.
I could always use a Google Form or a Wordpress plugin for this, I thought there might be a more private way to go about it.
I did not expect all of this debate over a software recommendation, haha.
For your information, petitions can be quite effective at the local level. The problem is, if you sign a petition on Change.org or something like that, they start bombarding you with emails to sign other similar petitions (kind of like the recommendation algorithms on sites like Youtube or Facebook).
People who sign these things know full well what they are doing. Advocacy is not anonymous. I am guess the folks giving me grief about asking for a petition tool won’t sign them, and that’s fine. I just don’t see why there is so much hate.
Another option I considered is a form to mail script. I thought that this is a common use case and something would already exist, haha.
All apps collect some information. Piefed requires your email to sign up.
I don’t want the free petition websites online getting my personal network’s info and sharing or selling it, hence the interest in self hosting.
0·7 days agoWell, people are allowed to make money, as long as they are not cheating others to do so. That’s how we get better goods and services at better prices – free market competition. Normally when the government gets involved in something (like your growing tomatoes example), their intervention adds additional expense to the final product. As long as no party is being coerced, let people figure it out on their own without the government.
You mentioned a “closed system”. I interpreted that as one free from government intervention. I think most libertarians would support that.
The Free State Project puts out a ton of social media . They also have a weekly newsletter which is pretty good.

I think your comment is referring to crony capitalism, right? You will be happy to know that Libertarians oppose all bailouts. Businesses should succeed or fail based upon their efforts, not government intervention.
There is an effort popularized by Congressman Ron Paul, arguably the Godfather of modern libertarianism, to end the Federal Reserve bank, which uses various financial levers to manipulate the economy. Most libertarians oppose this type of intervention. They support the previous gold standard, where all US money was backed by gold.
Many of our people in New Hampshire own gold and/or use it to barter. They see Bitcoin as another asset free of government manipulation as well.
Final note – I wouldn’t call myself a “hater” of any group. Even though we all disagree, we all want what is best for our society. I may disagree with the policies of Democrats or Republicans, but I respect them and agree to disagree 🙂
Well, we have no minimum wage in New Hampshire, and have repeatedly voted down one when proposed by the Democrats. I think we are on the same page.
Once enough Libertarians move to New Hampshire, we will have the concentration needed to win outright (and pick your Option C). What we are doing now moves the needle, but I think most people here would agree with you. 🙂

Libertarians generally believe in limited government both on economic issues, but also social issues.
- While Republicans align on the economic piece, they often want to regulate what we can do with our bodies and support too much policing and criminal justice.
- Democrats on the other hand, are not aligned on economic issues, but want the government to implement their beliefs on social issues.
With the Libertarian government, one can expect economic freedom, and also the protection of personal liberties. This manifests itself in lower taxes and government spending, but also criminal justice reform and protection of due process and privacy.
Edited to add… we have a movement in New Hampshire called the Free State Project . They are working to concentrate Libertarians in New Hampshire from all over the US (and world).
I hear you. In New Hampshire we have a very high concentration of libertarians, but still not enough to beat the Republicans or Democrats.
As an alternative, many pro-liberty Republicans and Democrats have gotten elected in New Hampshire (about 80 of them) and they make up the Liberty Caucus. It’s similar to the position of Thomas Massie or Rand Paul in US Congress… both are registered Republican, but pro-liberty.
The motion to release The Epstein Files was sponsored by Thomas Massie. He is a prominent Liberty Republican in Congress.
Here is a recent article where Massie argues to expedite the release of the files by appointing a Special Master.
I wouldn’t go that far. But I agree that the Epstein Files should be released. I mean, I posted a video supporting a Liberty Republican. Of course I want people like him to get elected. 🙂

It has to be approved in both houses and be signed by the Governor to become law. So far it has passed the New Hampshire State House.
