I get it, it’s a shitpost, but the US choosing a slightly less fascistic government halfway through the orange shitstain’s second attempt to turn the US into his technofeudal fiefdom isn’t really “fixing all the problems”…

It’s a VERY small step in the right direction, and the first step of a VERY long road.

I’m not from US, but calling this “VERY small step” is really disingenuous…

Fucking texas is now blue, first time since 1988. I know very little about your weird ass country but I didn’t think it was possible.

Take your victory and keep pressure on and keep on squeezing.

I’m not from the US.My whole fucking point is that a SINGLE country, no matter how influential it is, switching to a slightly less fascistic leadership is nowhere near “huzzah we saved the world” level change, and thinking so highly of yourself (in this case, on the level of a whole nation) is absolutely narcissistic.

Besides, we’ve seen what the Dems really do 99% of the time, especially without a charismatic leader who brings cohesion. Aside from a select few new faces, most of the old guard will now just sit back and do nothing. I mean, Hakeem Jefferies already announced they won’t seek “to get even” (meaning they won’t even try to prosecute obvious criminal activities in the government), nor will they attempt to impeach Trump…

That wasn’t a small step. That was about the biggest step that could have happened.

When I’m looking at a boy bleeding out from a racist crowd shooting at him, “A paramedic showed up to the scene instead of skipping work” is the best thing that could have happened but it’s not a moment of celebration yet.

Hope is the motivation killer. Hope is what encourages people to post memes rather than take action. Hope is relying on others to achieve your goals for you. Replace it with expectation based on deliberate action.

Perhaps you and I mean something different by “hope”, but a revolution doesn’t succeed on hope, it succeeds on determined action towards the desired goal. By all means keep that goal in mind, but, unless you are actively working towards it, you are just relying on others to achieve it for you, and if you are working towards it, then it’s not hope, it’s expectation, and that’s a very differentn and far more positive, thing.

That’s not hope, that’s expecting others to do what you won’t. Without hope a movement fails with the first setback. People don’t do anything without hope.

We clearly have very different ideas of what hope is. What you’re describing seems thin and rather tenuous to me, and would do nothing to motivate me. You would not look at a broken arm and just hope it got better, you’d bind the wound, splint the break, maybe get help from someone who knows what to do, and you’d expect that to help. In the same way, when facing a broken or corrupted system, just hoping it gets better, maybe even believing it can be made better, achieves nothing, and encourages exactly the sort of meme post activism we so often see. Only deciding what you can actually do to make the situation better, and then doing it, makes a difference, and if you’ce planned well, you can do it with the reasonable expectation that the situation wil improve as you expect it to. Seeing how your actions move you towards a better situation is what drives more action, and what buffers you against setbacks. At least, I find it vastly better than just sitting and hoping.

Hope makes people believe lies and propaganda. Hope can make people docile when things need to actively be changed. Hope is poison to reality when it motivates you to do less.

We gotta keep on fighting! For Jean-Luc!

If you live in the US, email your local senator and tell them how happy you are about Abdul’s win, and how you hope they’ll follow Abdul’s example. Tell them what issues you care about, and what sorts of things would cost them your vote.

President Newsom, followed by President…honestly, after Trump sucking all of the oxygen out of the room for the Republicans for 12 years, I’m not sure who’d be able to take his place.

EDIT: Apparently, Newsom is no longer considered a frontrunner for the nomination. Good!
