It’s a Lego kit dude. I’d be excited too. Its no different to if someone invited you to stay at theirs, you would get them a gift. And, this is a very normal one

if it was Trump, he’d probably gift them a picture of himself, or expect the other party to give him a gold trophy or some bs like that.

Trump would expect the lego bricks to be pure gold.

Trump would expect the kit to be already put together for him, and then he’d claim he built it all by himself. He’d then go on to say he designed the kit, and actually Lego itself was his idea in the first place.

That’s his boss. General Sisi was Mubarak’s second. He led a coup against the first democratically elected President and murdered him in jail. Egypt receives almost as much military aid as Israel, all to suppress their own people as an extension of the Israel occupation.

Right. But there are no good people in these positions:

Abdelatty is not only foreign minister but also chairs Egypt’s Supreme Standing Committee for Human Rights. At Egypt’s UN human-rights review in January 2025, he portrayed Egypt as having made major progress and did not acknowledge abuses. Human Rights Watch contrasted this with documented arbitrary detention of peaceful critics, torture, enforced disappearance, serious prison abuses and unfair mass trials and executions. Calling this record major progress while omitting those abuses can reasonably be characterized as whitewashing the government’s conduct.

There is also a longer history. When Abdelatty was Foreign Ministry spokesman in 2013–2015, during the crackdown after Mohamed Morsi’s removal, he publicly denied that authorities were conducting a political crackdown, saying there were “no exceptional measures” against political groups. He also defended Egypt against international criticism over the prosecution of Al Jazeera journalists and rejected European criticism of those trials. Those statements came during a period when journalists, opposition figures and protesters were being arrested in large numbers.

Morsi won office in a popular election, lasted barely two years, and then was couped and imprisoned.

I wouldn’t call that interm period a dictatorship, if for no other reason than it stood in stark contrast to the periods immediately before and after. There was no well-defined national leader. Bureaucrats were still shuffling around and rebuilding a power base, before settling on el-Sisi.

Until one of the aliens had finally had enough, killed a guy, then parted the Red Sea and led a bunch of slaves to freedom.

I was just trying to extend JoeBigelow’s joke by suggesting that contrary to the actual pyramids, Abdelatty would actually not want to pay those who would assemble that Lego set.

They didn’t have much other option, so what do you call that other than justified slavery?

They were paid, and rather well. It was a work program, like Roosevelt’s New Deal.

So… they were free to move elsewhere and use that money for luxuries? They could go get another job?

Because being paid doesn’t mean you’re free. Or is the only type of legitimate slave the typical American kind? It’s not black and white, there’s nuances here. If the black slaves in America were paid, it wouldn’t have been slavery….? Because that’s the logic that’s being used.

It really just sounds like you’re trying to justify not calling people who aren’t free slaves when they still were by every other metric.

It sounds like you don’t know very much about how the pyramids were built, and aren’t interested in learning the truth. The workers who built the Pyramids engaged in some of the first labor actions in recorded history–they went on strike, multiple times, and were successful in securing higher pay and better working conditions. Many of the workers who worked on the tombs of kings were highly respected craftsmen in their own right, who often were given permission to build their own tombs nearby; in many cases, only a little bit less grand than the tombs built for the pharoahs themselves.

The Ancient Egyptians definitely practiced slavery, and also, they didn’t use slaves to build the pyramids. The slaves were doing things like growing food for the people who built the pyramids.
