I’m so numb to the threat of a population crash after decades of accepting that I’ll likely die as a direct cause of climate change and/or nuclear annihilation and/or global pandemic and/or cancer from one of the many poisons we’re pumping into our environment. I couldn’t care less about population crash. They do everything they can to ruin the world for everybody but the elite, I’m sure as hell not bringing anybody into it so they can labor for these assholes.

Every time I hear politicians advocating for more children I keep thinking “you want to put even more people on this earth to use up its resources?”

Surely having a few less humans around would be a good thing for the climate.

I don’t really think they want that at all. I think it’s just another culture war wedge to fuck women with. Then people can claim it’s everything but the class war this clearly is.

Why would they want more kids around? To kill them or destroy them with robots would be the only answer. Nothing in the books they read/write actually indicate they want anyone to have more kids.

Hmm. In the biographies it is a least clear that he values spending time with them and has them in mind for many decisions - but definitely in his own way… Like quality time with his newest baby while being on a SpaceX conference call.

And the better question: Do they like him?

I hear you. But a lot of the content of both biographies are based on recounts from other people about him - but still…

Regarding Vivian, Elon has definitely done a really horrible job with her. According to the most recent book, he presumably tried to downside his mansion lifestyle in an effort to gain a bit of her fondness for him back (this was driven by their differences in political views, hers being much more left leaning; not her transgender identity). But obviously it didn’t help one bit. It just goes to show that he will bend for people (including his children) to like him.

I mean no one wants to be hated by the in-crowd. I think him losing progressive clout back when he was with old grimey hit him hard. He spent a fortune in reddit psychophants, cartoon spotlights, TV exposure, and other media to get people the progressives to like him.

It didn’t work, and rather than slinking into background like other billionaires he made an emotional decision to publicly pivot alt-right. I think this really is who he is, but I don’t think he actually likes it. He embraces loudly it because he knows we hate it.

I think deep down all these adults with power who act emotionally just want to be beloved, but cannot accept that their core values make them reviled. I can definitely understand him trying to do right by his kids, in his own warped logic sense

The irony of American white nationalism will always be that that despite being a white American by birth and genetics, even as I fight that privilege, I’ll still be a “better” white American than the world’s richest immigrant can ever be. You picked the wrong allies, you picked the wrong fight, and your ancestors (exploiters as they were) picked the wrong continent. You’ll never be “good” enough. And while I despise that standard, your failure to figure that out and your personal collapse is a small delight.

The cost is parenthood is probably one of the biggest obstacles to having a higher fertility rate in most industrialized countries.

You want more babies? Stop hoarding all the money with the other 15 richest people in the country. Pay your fair share of taxes so the people looking to start building families get the support they need and their children have access to an affordable quality education. Also give everyone a fair pay.

      The cost is parenthood

Money is certainly a big factor, but so is time and the general lack of support parents get from society. Historically (and in some parts of the world today), there was more focus on the extended family rather than the elementary family. The shift in focus on family structure has put a lot more demands on parents. Combined with the higher expectations of parenting, and it’s no wonder many people are opting out. When I talk about expectations, think about not only material items but how norms have changed regarding the level of supervision.

Parenting has become punitive in many modern societies.

I think I heard the best explanation as a generation of people being devoid of hope for the future being told that their actually wrong and really just being selfish and life isn’t that bad. Like truly dead inside and just going thorough the motions on autopilot.

Because fertility rates everywhere are going down, and it’s not just an economic consideration. North Korea is racing South Korea to the bottom in terms of who can go extinct first, and they are the most disparate case that could possibly be presented.

It’s now Darwinian in the sense that only those who can afford quality have the likelihood of better upward mobility, like some of them insisting to have private education over public. Of course and sadly, the so-called middle class is being hollowed out as the wealth gap widens.

Birthrates are down because (amongst other things) it’s financially impossible to have a family in this time.

However, as much as these tech billionaires invest into AI, they still need grunt workers to keep society running. So eventually these billionaires will lose value because society doesn’t have workers.

I would not accept shame of a type I wouldn’t put on someone else. Would I shame a woman for having kids with multiple guys? Of course not, you’d have to be a megachode to do that. So why would we tolerate people shaming anyone for that practice? Why should a person’s gender determine whether they’re allowed multiple partners in their life? We’re not even talking about non-monogamy here; plenty of people have kid(s) with one partner and then have more with another after leaving the first. I’ve got family members and friends who’ve done that. You think how much we shame them should be determined by their gender? Only women should be permitted?

Although a woman having kids with multiple guys would probably negatively impact her, this choice doesn’t have the same consequences for her in society. An equivalent “bad choice” for a woman would be marrying an older man at a young age, never getting an education, never getting a job, having multiple kids with him, and then allowing him to be The Head of the Household without any input from her. Long term, that would put her in a similarly disadvantaged social position as a man with multiple baby mommas, if she were an average person.

I didn’t say that people who have kids out of wedlock or who get married before adulthood deserve to be kicked out of society and neither do people who pick their nose in public or who steal from the collection plate at church. I said it’s embarrassing and probably shouldn’t be encouraged.

As a man not taking care of your multiple kids is embarrassing and most guys can’t mentally or financially afford to take care of multiple kids. Paying child support instead of providing for your kid day to day is embarrassing. Multiple child support payments can bankrupt you, they’ll dock your wages. Not paying child support is a felony in some States. Of course this is only the rule for us poors.

Nailing multiple hoes with no protection is a gamble on getting a kid or an STD. It’s incredibly stupid. This is just how guys in my generation tend to think. Edit: Not that Elon “nailed” anybody, his kids are all from IVF allegedly, which is even more embarrassing than just having multiple kids from different women.

I dont think its embarrassing, but practical if you want to spread your DNA. He’s had children from actual relationships so it’s not like he can’t, and he can afford to pay for all of them.

Egotistical sure. Having so many kids you cant be a real father to them and using money to replace that, pretty brutal. Im sure other things too, but I wouldn’t say embarrassing.

The mothers wanted a child, and unless they were going to adopt, were likely going to have IVF through a sperm donor anyway. It’s not like he’s trying to convince someone who doesn’t want a kid to have his kids. He convinced people who wanted to have kids to have his kid.

So I don’t see how that impacts what a child rearing expert think, since a kid is going to be born to a single mother, or a mother who can’t have a kid naturally with their husband. Unless you’re saying women shouldn’t raise a child alone, via IVF or adoption, which I don’t think you’re trying to say.

Edit: And in this case, the kid is set for life, albeit with a terrible father (who might have been absent anyway)

Edit: And if he’s convincing people who do not want kids, to have his kids, well that’s another ball game entirely and is embarrassing.
