  • That’s not actually true though is it. It reflects that RvP was more effective than Drogba for every respective minute they were on the pitch.

    Not dividing by minutes played would unfairly skew the stat against an injury prone player. But keeping it normalised by minutes accurately reflects the threat posed by the player for every minute they played.

    Unless you are arguing that an injury prone player will play fewer ‘defensive’ minutes, ie that a player like RvP is only on the pitch for moments where his team is actively seeking a goal which is maybe plausible, there is no reason to think that dividing by minutes played unfairly advantages a player that’s played fewer minutes, since fewer minutes also means fewer opportunities to score or assist.
