RvP being fourth or fifth on that all time PL G+A per 90 graphic is absolutely nuts given that he had only one truly spectacular season for us in 8 total seasons. Just shows how good he was throughout whenever he wasn’t injured. If only we he didn’t snake out on us the minute he discovered some fitness!
It’s per 90 so it favours him heavily
how does it favour an injured player?
Surely its worse for injured players i.e. there’s 10x as many games where they were gaining fitness than somone that was fit all year lol.
Even time wise… super subs would be favoured but not injured players.
Im guessing RvP would be at least scoring in those games when he’s subbed on coming back from injury, meaning he’s getting goals in less minutes played
Vieira performing is by itself a good reason to cut ESR loose… it will be difficult if not impossible to find playing time for both. Eventually we need to choose one of them and cut the other one.
I see Vieira-ESR or Trossard-ESR as the alternative to Ødegaard-Havertz or Ødegaard-Rice midfields. Between Vieira and ESR one of them has to replicate some of Xhaka/Havertz role and imo it’s likely expected from ESR. Especially if Rice is on the pitch who likes the left half space. Though imagine our two “g/a merchants” playing in a comparatively low stakes/“easier” game, maximum entertainment but not exactly Arteta so i get why you say that
It’s way harder to maintain form if a player plays 45 games a season than if he plays 10. Also a player does not play if he’s not fit.
Don’t think that would be an issue for RVP. He was elite.
he didn’t take entire games to regain fitness, just sub cameos
Look at others on the list though - higher than Drogba, Kane, Ronaldo.
It shows that he was lethal whenever he was available even in his earlier seasons.
That is funnily enough the only time we have won at OT in the last ten years.
Was off an auba penalty as well
He was lethal, yes. But this is also a stat that favours him and other injury prone players.
So underrated in all time discussions. Imagine him in today’s game.
