This meme is an example of how the superstructure maintains the base.
It’s ideology misdirecting attention away from class conscientiousness. If we’re angry about a perceived cultural wrong, we’re not paying attention to how wages have stagnated while productivity has soared.
Maybe Marxism, at least as a diagnostic tool, isn’t such a bad thing after all.
Penny wise pound foolish. The only way not to go through the paper is to go through the rolls.

The idea that it could happen is false hope though, because you’re buying into the idea that the chance is worth $5. The chance is so small it might as well be zero. So you’re way over spending for a could that is practically a won’t.
There are some situations with some lotteries where the math works in your favor because of for instance rollover. But if you’re committed to $5 a week you’re not that lottery player.
If you were to put $5 in S&P 500 weekly for a decade it is far more likely that you’ll have a profit of a few thousand on top of the money that you did not spend on lottery tickets (because you still own the stock). That’s not really as radically marxist as my previous comment might make me seem, but for your personal wallet it’s way better.
In this economy if you want to become rich, the best thing is to start out rich. The next best thing is starting a company and pocketing the productivity of your employees. Back to that marxism thing again.
Ah, so not only false hope but also crushing class consciousness.
I’m not surprised. I speak Dutch.
I absolutely agree.
Cars have become expensive, sure. But what I find crazy is people are so happy to take out huge loans on it.
You can buy a really nice and comfortable car for under €10k around here. Yet so many people have a car worth 2/3 of their gross annual income.
They probably shouldn’t have named it London in hindsight. But back then of course they probably didn’t know they were going to revisit Liberty City/Vice City/San Andreas a couple of times.
Too bad that’s a 13.5 hour flight.
There are plenty of over-the-top British stereotypes they could do that the rest of the world would also appreciate. Royalty, Jacob Rees-Mogg/Boris Johnson style politicians, Brexit craziness, chavs, Geordie Shore, empire nostalgia.
Where I live you could buy a very decent RV for the equivalent of $100k. Hell even the $60k variant gets you quite a bit.
I’d much rather have that and be able to work “from home” from the south of Spain rather than drive a geometric shape.
GTA is satire about American society. Because of Hollywood, TV, and English being the lingua franca of the world, this way they can reach a far bigger audience. You couldn’t do exactly the same game set in Helsinki because the world knows far less about Finnish stereotypes. Ninja Edit: Random thought about satirical games set in Finland: My Summer Car is kind of that game.
But they have explored London before. I think the UK would probably the best setting if you would.
Alright. I thought I’d missed a controversy.
I know some people complain about GTA Online, but with anything as surplus to human needs as video games I’d say just vote with your Dollar.
Why?
I like old cars, but the point is there will be a point at which getting a car that is as uncomplicated as a 1990s Japanese sedan will end. In 20 years time you’d have to deal with all sorts of electric and software issues.
It used to be that you could just take out the cassette player and insert a Bluetooth radio, for instance. In modern cars everything is integrated software and it sure as hell won’t be maintained by car manufacturers after 10 years at most.
Overigens is het wel belangrijk voor journalistiek te betalen als je het kan veroorloven.
So far the show has offered more questions than answers. We’ll see.
