I think I’d rather overspend on someone like Dougie Luiz in January than someone like Toney if I’m being totally honest. Maybe my opinion will be revised if Emile comes back firing after the international break but it feels as if the long midfield squad planning wouldn’t be hindered with Luiz but it absolutely will with Toney.

You’d imagine Partey & Jorgi are gone next summer, question marks over whether ESR/Vieira could still be here - Luiz would be a shrewd pick up so long as the fee doesn’t get stupid.

Whereas if we go in for Toney you’re basically cutting off the option for any elite forward for the next 2/3 years.
