How many goals did we score against top sides? That’s where the top striker comes in. We don’t need help beating Luton, we need help beating Liverpool

The player is on shit wages and we are the biggest club with the most obvious need at his position. I hope he gets the bag because this is his last chance at a big deal. Just not from us.
Matthew Upson. Can’t not see him in a hammers shirt
I was only ever able to get to a single game there in the last season and I cherish it. Glad emirates finally has an aura to it, but it’ll never be highbury
we’re really going to need that win at St James. 7 PL fixtures in December with a trip to PSV is rough, including Villa and Liverpool we’re bound to drop a couple points there but if we can come out of our first 20 matches with 50+ points we’ll be in great shape for the title chase.
Not having to travel to both CL games is a real benefit this month. If we can get all 3 points off WHU and Newcastle I’ll feel great about a clean sweep.
His teammates loved him. The reality is the club was run by cheap dinosaurs then who torched everyone’s reputation on the way out, refused to acknowledge the changing financial reality of the game, and he (rightly) figured dragging us to the champions league with a ridiculous season after we let Man City raid our cupboard was worth actually investing in, was told to fuck off because we didn’t want to pay anything close to star wages.
He’d thrive today
Any former gooner? Let’s just say non Henry, Bergy, Vieira division because that’s no fun.
In attack, Wrighty is ideal, though I’d say from a pure skillet standpoint Anelka would be perfect as our 10 if he wasn’t such a weird dude. Pace, power, technique, had it all when he wanted to. Kanu would be my next choice, but he was really inconsistent at times.
In midfield probably Pires? Would slide in great at left 8. Santi was slick.
In defense we are set at CB, I’d love to have a Cole at left back, or Toure/Sagna bombing up around Saka.
I’m more concerned about sleepwalking through easier fixtures and dropping points. The key to the title is doing just enough in the big matches to get by and wiping the floor with the other 15 teams. It’s those random 5 or 6 matches where you waste opportunities that come back to bite you.
It’s bullshit but at the same time I’d take that of my fullback is up against a world class winger
4-0, fuck em up. This team has arrived.
Is Toney better than Eddie? Yeah. I’m not big on Toney but he is bigger and better in a few areas and he is a good penalty taker. The problem is getting Toney means we aren’t getting anyone better than Toney for a long time. What’s the point? Take the 70M and go spend 120M and get a proper striker we can rely on for 5-6 years.
It’s absolute shit timing for him because he’s 2nd choice to Pickford for the Euros but if he isn’t playing at all then he could lose his England spot, and if Pickford is hurt it’s hard to imagine Southgate trusting Ramsdale to come in cold. I doubt we sell him in January because we need the backup but it’s prove-it time for the whole squad and his chance of playing significant minutes is basically gone if he’s stuck behind Raya the entire season.
Even then PSG will hold out or try to sign him to an extended salary so he has more guaranteed money in case he gets hurt in the spring or Euros, or so that he can be loaned out to Madrid to get around FFP. I expect no end to the shenanigans around his transfer whenever it happens.
DJourou and Senderos don’t belong on this list at all. Senderos was fine when he wasn’t being eaten alive by Drogba, but he wasn’t alone there. They both mostly just suffer because they aren’t Sol Fucking Campbell so it was always a downgrade when they played.
The whole team feels out of sync though, even Ode’s lack of progressive passing shows that. We’re creating fewer chances and shooting less. We’ve had a tricky handful of matches and a lot of new faces so it’s not a huge surprise, but would like to see us attack with more speed in transition. I feel like we settled on this concept of “we attack too fast” and now we’re just trying to break down teams and snuff the game out. It’s led to more clean sheets but we’re creating half as many chances.
Either knock out a key contender early or we have one less competition to distract us and it’s not like we have to go to some beat up frozen pitch and risk injury. I’m fine with it.
