Nah not buying it Toney is leagues ahead of Nketia. We need a consistent goap scorer. Nketia never has been that. Though he hasn’t had a consistent long run of games.
So many morons don’t understand Nketiah place in squad. He is going to be excellent backup and will spend many years at Arsenal. The plan was always to bring world class striker (or someone who has potential to be world class) eventually and he will be target of next summer and Eddie willkve to role of 3rd striker when everyone is healthy.
He’s not an excellent backup because he provides nothing off the bench as a sub.
Apples and oranges mate… they’re completely different profiles. Toney’s profile is one we desperately need - big man that can hold up ball and bring others in but technical enough to drop deeper and connect play when required.
It’s the wrong argument. If we’re going to get a striker, it should be to compete with Jesus. You don’t replace Eddie by signing someone to compete for back up. You replace him because Jesus is now the back up.
This is the correct logic.
He’s not worth £60m for me, but he’s proven he can score goals in this league. We create more than Brentford, so he will eventually pay us back, provided he hasn’t any more gambling issues.
The links to Ivan Toney do not excite me at all, especially not for the money being reported.
They’re different types of player and I know the fee will be big for Toney but that’s what you’re going to have to pay for an established PL striker. Toney would be far more effective than Eddie and that for me isn’t up for debate.
Isn’t Watkins better still?
Absolutely not
I have my reservations about Toney but I think a lot of what he does well isn’t fully represented in stats.
Ivan Toney is good but is he Arsenal good? Probably not. Being linked to him is always baffling. Shouldn’t we be going for a high caliber striker who is guaranteed to be smashing in goals within the 20-25 range? I mean, our golden boys in Speedy Gabi, Captain Ö, and Starboy got 14 goals at least apiece. So naturally we’d be wanting someone who has the capability to match Auba’s tally at his highest if not more? Toney doesn’t seem to be the player to get us there.
Well, I think Arsenal would be insane to spend 60-80 million on him to replace Nketiah. I don’t believe there is sufficient evidence that he would make a difference that warrants that financial investment. He might be SLIGHTLY better for us, but I don’t imagine it would be a night and day scenario.
I live in the hope we get somebody nobody expected or knows and we stop pretending there are only like 3 available players on the planet.
It’s not only about his finishing. Toney offers physicality up front that no one else in our squad currently does. He’s also a good outlet for aerial crosses, so it adds another dimension to our attack as we’d be able to make effective use for low and high crosses.
Is Toney better than Eddie? Yeah. I’m not big on Toney but he is bigger and better in a few areas and he is a good penalty taker. The problem is getting Toney means we aren’t getting anyone better than Toney for a long time. What’s the point? Take the 70M and go spend 120M and get a proper striker we can rely on for 5-6 years.
Toney had one good season. Id rather pay for Boniface or some top striker for the next 10 years.
Boniface is just a more athletic Giroud, we need a finisher
