Sorry but this is the answer. We would’ve been a 90 point team with him fit (despite him being the worst defender ever or whatever) and he was our best player in several big games from LB.

I don’t know who the voters are but White and Zinny at fullback have been a million miles more dangerous than Sagna and Monreal ever were while being part of a defensive unit more solid than we ever used to have and there’s only so much you can put at the feet of Saliba and Partey/Rice on that. Monreal was a very solid A grade full back for his time, while Zinchenko has been a game changer for the team.

The greatest FBs my whole life have been major attacking threats, if they can be 90% of a Sagna or Monreal defensively while being 500% of them offensively it’s a fair trade and then some. I’m thinking FBs like Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Lahm, Lizarazu, Dani Alves, Maicon.

Zinny is also great in the air, great at recovering the ball quickly in the final third. OK, he is not the greatest of all time one on one defending in the final third, but he’s not a poor defender either.

My memory on it is a bit fuzzy but how many times did Sagna and Monreal play together? I felt like Monreal came in as a backup during the end of days for Sagna, and then only truly kicked on in the Bellerin era?

I think people are just nostalgic. At this rate, Saka will be the only player from our current squad voted here (and maybe Rice if people are willing to put him on this early).

He was a good passer! I always thought he was a bit like a midfielder out there in his movement and passes around corner. Never had license to go central like Zinchenko tho.

I hate to say it but Ashley Cole was the better player. Do not want Cole to be in there given what a prick he is. Monreal was solid for us.

I loved him so much. When he first came over the transfer felt underwhelming, but soon enough I couldn’t imagine him not being in the team.

Nope, he was very cheap. Less than 10m pounds. He just wasn’t the typical type of LB from that time. He wasn’t very fast, but man, he was so good. He would hold his own on the left and going fwd he was perfect possession full back.

He was not, he wasn’t even the highest of that calendar year. Nacho was only about €10.00m according to transfermarkt.

Ok I’m remembering someone else. Thought he was around £20mil which was a massive amount for Wenger back then.

    La Cabra - aka Monreal.

Super consistent. Big goals. Great player. Never understood why we sold him for as little as wel did

KT should’ve been the answer here and it’s so unfortunate that he hasn’t been able to offer what Mikel’s looking for. If you would’ve told me 2 years ago that Monreal was getting 5x the votes that KT is getting on something like this, I’d have thought you’re crazy.

Sagna is the most upvoted (nearly 1k) comment for RB position ahead of Ben White. Unfortunately the previous website I was using didn’t have Sagna so I switched over to another one.

Appreciate everyone’s feedback with suggestions. I understand this isn’t the best way to determine our best XI, but I thought it’s fun activity over Int’l break regardless. Also, try not to upvote more than one player so we can get at least fair representation. I noticed some people are putting 2/3 players in the same comment so it’s hard to decide on those. I will try to put some suggestions in the comments for each position so you can upvote it. If anyone wants to take over or create a poll, I’d be okay with that.

This one is way more difficult. Highest performing player over a short time has been Zinchenko but Monreal was solid for a long time, yet never reached the same heights…
