I love them. Had a few connected to my steam deck and using it like a console. They work great for Diablo 4 as well. Every once in a while

I use the Steam Controller constantly to play docked FFXIV and PAYDAY 3. Though I use a Stadia controller for any games that work decently on controller, such as HITMAN 3 and Watch_Dogs

I do. I even use steam link with it to be able to put my steamdeck somewhere else than the projector cable.

I tried using it for a bit but the amount of games in-which I prefer a right analog stick to gyro + Touch made me switch. If you can get past the learning curve, it might be the best option.

I really want Steam to make a second controller with the exact same buttons as the Deck. It could then share the same controller configs, helping bring handheld and dock experiences a lot closer

I did one better. I had the OG Steam Link hooked up to my shitty projector and streamed the Steam Deck to that while using the Steam Controller.

Yeah, I even bought a spare one as I realised that I might not be able to get one later.

I have 1 but not sure how to use it.

It came after I have my steamdeck. How do U compensate for 1 shortage of joystick on the right assuming U using the right pad as a trackpad?

My games are mostly RTS and was able to play wh3 with my deck with many pause hahaa.

It depends on the game. If it supports simultaneous gamepad & KB&M then you use the right track pad as a mouse. If it’s something like Fallout 3, you either use M&KB bindings or joystick as mouse.

Trackpad in mouse mode is better than an analog stick for aiming IMO. Just a lot of games don’t support it correctly and Steam Input failed to be fully adopted.

Trackpad and gyro aim. It takes a bit to get used too, but you end up with nearly mouse-esq accuracy.

Steam controller is great to have for keyboard and mouse games. I mostly use an Xbox controller for the other stuff.

Yeah I do, I still love it. The track pads are much better than the steam deck ones. The battery life is unbelievable. I only miss the 2 steam deck buttons really.

The trackpads ond the Steam controller are technically significantly less precise than the Steam Deck’s. The concave and circular shape of the pads make them FEEL a lot better than they actually are.

The gyroscope on the controller is also a bit dated, making very precise movements a bit harder.

Imagine how amazing a new SC would be with all of valve’s latest tech.

Do you use disposable batteries or rechargeable ones? I used the latter and battery didn’t last long…

The IKEA Ladda 2450 mAh batteries are actually the same as Eneloops for a fraction of the price. IKEA’s charger is also very good and uses the hybrid approach for quick charging and taking them to max capacity. I use them in all my game controllers and they work great.

I actually don’t support game controllers with internal lithium batteries. They will wear out overtime and are harder to replace.

NiMH batteries self-discharge themselves, that’s why they aren’t good for low-power devices

I’ve bought an 8 pack of rechargeable Eneloop NiMH for 20 bucks now almost 10 years ago and they have not degraded significantly.

I’m getting usually around 80 hours of use out of a single charge.
