Chevy has been saying the Equinox EV would be on sale in the Fall of 2023 and start as low as $30,000.

We’re pretty well into Fall now and I haven’t heard a single thing about this car and when I contacted a dealership I was told they also have no time table for when they will get them.

Does anyone know anything about this car? I was somewhat intrigued by it, but fear it’s gonna show up a year late and about $15k higher than what was previously said.

The big 3 are slowly backing away from EVs citing low demand. But in reality they’re just playing their usual games and hoping they can push the market back to their favor. Just like they did in the 80s and 90s. (Which led to Japan eating their lunch) They know if they fuck up, Uncle Sam will bail them out, so in a way, they will still get your money even if you don’t buy their shit.

If you want an EV, get a Tesla or literally any other manufacturer that isn’t Chevy, Ford, or Stellantis. Ford just announced it’s cancelling battery plants and scaling back, Chevy is struggling with Ultrium and already cancelled their top selling EV for what is essentially vaporware at this point.

Meanwhile Mercedes, BMW, Tesla, Hyundai/Kia, Rivian, Volkswagen/Porsche, Volvo/Polestar, and Lucid if you’re real spendy, are all producing solid EVs. Hell, Even Toyota, with their shitty EV is doing better than GM is right now. Most of them have committed to Tesla’s NACS adapter which means you can get an EV that can use a decent charging network.

The Equinox is a big question mark. I say this as someone who has money in GM stock. I have a vested interest in having them win. Yet I am having trouble seeing that happen in the foreseeable future. I invested because they already had a foot in the door when everyone else was standing away unsure. They looked like a company that learned that the “GM Way” was broken. They had a “compliance” EV that got practical range, and not some piece of shit with a 20kw battery that gets 60 miles. (looking at you, Mazda.)

Now they threw it away for a platform that isn’t even ready, and now are making excuses to exit making EVs. Coinciding with a sudden influx of anti-ev articles and news being promoted hard. So much that Tesla is considering doing advertising to counter that bullshit.

Basically, Chevy is trying to leverage the Osborne effect against rivals (probably targeting Tesla). They say that a cheaper EV is coming soon so don’t buy that EV you’ve been looking at. Then it comes out more expensive and later than “expected”. Toyota is doing the same every year with “solid state 600 mile range coming in 2 years!”.

    Lol.

It will be available in small quantities for $49K.

If they can figure out how to build batteries affordably, there may be a $35K base model in a year and a half or so.

They will probably sell like 500 of the $35K Equinox in 2025 and will have a nice PR statement about how they had to close the order books due to unprecedented demand.

There are cars out there now for $37-38k (Tesla ID4) … also the Bolt is still available for a lot less but it’s a smaller car.

In October, GM was saying that the car will be released in 1Q2024, the base trim is $35K, and that the higher cost trims will be available first ($50K).

My friends at GM have told me that the native android OS is to carplay/AA as carplay/AA was to basic Bluetooth. Have you tried it?

It has already released, except it is called a Buick Electra E5 and it is sold in China. In fact when it was released they had a special barebones Pioneer edition that omitted stuff like heated seats, electric seat adjustment, sunroof among other things, and its price is 23k, and thus even with the 27.5% tariff on Chinese vehicles it would still be about 30k in the USA. And the real kicker in the gut is this Buick comes with Apple carplay too

GM has never really delivered on their promises. This is why I bought the Bolt instead of waiting for the Equinox. Until it’s actually available on the lot to purchase, it’s just vaporware. They should be held accountable for deceiving shareholders.

Looks like they’re going to be 4-5 months late. Everything else in GM’s EV lineup so far has been on time.

Don’t forget to factor in the $10,000 dealer markups. And $3000 paint protection and $2000 for the first three years of oil changes…
