Looking at a laptop that says “Rtx 4060” I have no idea what either of those mean, is that a lot of Rtx or a little?

as of q4-2023, I wouldn’t even consider anything RTX 2000 series, not even a 2050 that’s being built with some modern laptops as of 2022-2023, it’s just too old and dated.

anything Max-Q will be reduced in performance to protect thermals and power performance barrier limitations. Ti models will “try” to offer more juice than the non-Ti models, but only if the cooling and power availability is adequate in the design engineering.

rtx 3050 will still offer considerable performance for certain games that don’t require a lot of juice. can play d2r and sc-remake and sc2 with optimal framerates.
if you’re not a hardcore gamer trying to play FPS games, then the 3050 is adequate.

3060/4060 is where the performance pretty much doubles. - medium settings at 1080p with fast fps.
this is the bare minimum that serious gamers that like to try various game titles should be considering at minimum, but don’t expect maxed out settings on newer games after 2022 with high fps.

3070/4070 - better performance, but not as noticeable as a jump from 3050 - 3060.
    expect better performance.

3080/4080 - 3090/4090 is top of the line. best performance available as of Q4-2023.

It’s the minimum rtx. 4070 is just enough rtx, 4080 is a nice amount of rtx and 4090 is too way too much rtx.

Thank you for coming to my RTX talk.

Ok since you seem to know a lot about rtx, side question how does an rtx card make the graphics better if the laptop has a set number of pixels? And follow up, if I switch out the rtx 4060 for a 4080 will that improve the graphics or do I need a screen with more pixels?

Better textures, view distance is farther, the environment may have more plant life and other foliage, water can look better, etc.

Also fps which is how many frames are created in a second. 30fps was standard for old consoles but PS5 made 60fps the new standard. It makes movement look smooth instead of jittery or like a slideshow.

        Stuff like that.

My 3070ti can play 1440p resolution with 60fps max settings pretty easy. I know XX60 cards are a good bit weaker and XX50 cards are trash.

I would go with 4070 just to be future proof. But 4060 may work at 1080. Should be able to 1080/60 with high settings and 1080/30 max settings for sure. The rest depends on how intensive the game is.

So 4060 will run all the games you want now. 4070 will run all the games really well, the best they can on your resolution, and future games for a few years without issues.
