They’re called pervert glasses for a reason…
My mother bought me some sunglasses with a small built-in camera back in the 2010s. She got them mainly so I could record myself when I was skateboarding, which I thought was a super cool use case for them. But even back then, I felt weird about wearing them in public so they sat in my bedroom unused. Even as a dumb 19 year old, I could see how it was weird and could make people uncomfortable. I don’t understand how we’ve gotten to a point in society where nobody gives even a shred of consideration to other people’s personal space and privacy, and why the people wearing Meta Glasses don’t feel like complete creeps.

But you don’t understand, being falsely accused of rape is much, much worse than actually being raped! They HAVE to wear these glasses to protect themselves from women! /s
I really like to know what the point of wearing glasses on a date is supposed to even be? Is the whole point that you want this person to like you, how much recording them going to help you with that?
Or is that too logical of a question?
Review the game footage so the next date goes better
I am not sure to understand the concept of a date in the US. Is it something you do with the ones you fear? And why would men be affraid of a date with a woman? And how could filming some part of the date prove that there isn’t an unfilmed (or erased) part with an aggression? How something as simple and beautifull as a date can become so complicated and scary?
I genuinely try to understand…
Please do not mistake my attempt at explanations as endorsements of the explanation.
The line between comfort and fear is a sentence. So to the first question, sometimes. A date is about feeling out a person, so fear is certainly a part of the equation at times.
Regarding a man being afraid of a date with a woman, probably due to a perpetually-online mindset that false-accusations are commonplace? That’s the best I can come up with.
In general, I think you’re right to be skeptical, but hype and fear sell. Reasonable rationality does not.
I understand it is not your position, and thank you for your explaination.
Here is a soluton for them, easy and free:
Have the date in a public place, and avoid private places until there are no more fears on both side. Wait until each can feel knowing each other enough to be alone together.
(I guess you don’t need the advice, but some of them could read this…)
I blame Kent Brockman.

“Person wearing Meta Glasses is an instant red flag”, fixed the headline
This is overwhelmingly a male phenomenon. That shouldn’t be glossed over. And the article talks about why men might be more drawn to these.
Fair point. “Men doing anything while wearing pervert glasses huge red flag”. Not exclusive to dates.
Meta sold more than 7 million pairs of the Ray-Bans in 2025
Jesus i didn’t realize how many of them are out there
Jesus i didn’t realize how many of them are out there
77 million voted Trump.
77 million flock cameras with legs.
They’re fucking everywhere it’s terrifying. I’m old and married, I’ll be fine, but I’m really concerned for the young women out there :(
Those who are not repulsed by the idea of using products from the creators of Facebook known for privacy infringement is a red flag.
Wired passed on calling them “pervert glasses”.
Cowards.
Wired is just the Sharper Image Catalog
I recently saw a story that claimed some guy wears the glasses as a form of protection from lying women.
I don’t know if it’s BS or not, but the fact that I can’t tell, doesn’t seem like a good thing for society.
How would that even work? Wouldn’t they have to film the entire intercourse which would be straight out illegal? Because I assume we’re talking about false rape allegations, not lying about their hobbies or something. Sounds like a bad excuse to gather dirt and bully someone later.
as a form of protection from lying women.
rapist says what?
People who lie about SA/etc. and destroy people’s lives are unfortunately real (regardless of gender/sex) and isn’t that uncommon. This is an extremely sensitive and controversial issue for everyone, that I don’t think can be fairly distilled into a sweeping generalized accusation.
So he keeps the glasses on during intercourse? should all men now wear dashcams?
isn’t that uncommon.
More uncommon than rape and sexual assault.
“X suffers more so Y issues don’t matter.”
Be better.
I never said they don’t matter. Work on your reading comprehension.
What were you saying then? I also don’t see another interpretation tbh
Rape and sexual assault occurr more often than fake accusations.
This is a factually true statement regardless of how anyone feels about it.
Survivors rarely make false reports about sexual assault. Only 6% of sexual assaults are reported to the police. And false accusations of sexual assault happen no more than false reports of other types of crime: about 2% to 4%, which means 96% to 98% of the reports are true.
Why weren’t they wearing body cams prior if it’s the real reason?
Probably the same reason you’re not wearing one either. It’s not a problem until it happens to you.
I didn’t want to have to put cameras all around both the outside AND inside my house either, but after breakins and vandalism the police proved to me I’m completely on my own. My insurance also dropped me after I tried to make a claim “without sufficient evidence.”
If all these men are claiming all these women are out to get them and make false statements, they would have already been using every tool available, hence they would have been wearing some form of body cam prior to this. They are simply saying it now, because it’s way more discreet to use these glasses and potentially use them for other purposes.
If you are using cameras for some kind of defense, you make them loud and proud, not super discreet. They are designed to be a visual deterrent so the possible crime is less likely to happen in the first place.

I could see that unfortunately. I’ve had the unfortunate luck to meet people (both men and women but more women) that to call snakes would be an insult to the snake.
On a date though? Listen, keep an open mind, and cut bait if they do something that betrays your comfort zone. Avoid compromising situations, you don’t know them, that’s why it’s a date. No matter what you have to open up and trust just a little, and recording for legal and training purposes just ain’t that.
So imho, as a person that absolutely understands wanting help with social interactions and dealing with trust issues, I don’t believe 99% men saying this is the reason they need the perve glasses on.

If you aren’t an influencer or streamer, or whatever, what is going through your head when you do that? Do you want to relive a rejection?
I am so glad that I never got into the whole thick rimmed glasses hype.
I wear Lindbergs as my daily driver
Other red flags:
Man owning Meta glasses.
Man using Meta products.
ManMen bad.
Would you rather go on a date with a man wearing Meta glasses or go on a date with a bear wearing Meta glasses?
Always pick the bear.
I’m a man. It was a joke.
God, so sensitive
