Any trans people reading this comment, who are around 18- 25 years old. Germany and some other countries offer a social year, where you work over here for a year. You get to live here, have healthcare etc. Only cache is that you gotta work in a social sector job. Sometimes people can manage to make it two years. So if you are looking for a temporary way out, check it out. There is nothing you can lose by trying to do that year.

Sincerely, correct me if I’m wrong, but reading through info on this it looks like you’re not cleared to do paid employment on the necessary visa for this. If someone opts for this (it does look like a cool program, and I have some people in mind where it’d be an excellent fit if they can swing it), you’re going to need funds for self-support in advance (similar to other programs like this - WOOFing etc.)
If you have the means to do this, definitely looks worth exploring though. Obviously gonna have to learn German (what I’m seeing suggests at a B1 level, though noting some roles may accept a lower level of fluency).

Born in the 70s here. I do remember LGB without the T in the 1990s and early 2000s, you probably were too young to pick up on the term. In any case, trans rights came into the spotlight much later than LGB rights.

This sort of thing is exactly why I say “queer” instead of using initials. Because you can keep adding more initials all day and you’re still going to be leaving people out that should be counted and you can take initials away like those people never counted to begin with. And it’s very easy for cishet people to ignore any of those letters individually and still act like they’re an ally.
“Queer” may have negative roots, but it seems to be generally accepted as an inoffensive term today and, I think, more reflective of sexuality as a spectrum. I wouldn’t mind a better word to use without those negative roots, but I just can’t think of one.
This does seem rather practical as a catch-all term. LGBTQ+ is much too cumbersome

Any gender-affirming care for teenagers have been canceled, so the (non-tracked) suicide rate will already skyrocket. However right now the camps are only for “immigrants” and those who get caught by ICE as collateral damage of their hunt; trans people are in second place though. I assume first they’ll come for teenagers as well, ripping them out of their families who’ll get accused of child abuse (for trying to protect their trans kids), then the camps for everyone else will be build.

No, that’s completely wrong. They’re coming after trans people because trans people are the easiest target right now. They also intend to get rid of gay, lesbian, and bisexual people, but it’s easier to focus on one group at a time and attempt to split people apart.
They did the same shit in the UK with the “LGB Alliance,” mostly straight TERFs collaborating with the Heritage Foundation and doing absolutely nothing to advance the rights of the people they claimed to be supporting, focusing entirely on attacking trans people to the point of making alliances with extreme reactionaries and anti-feminists.

I’m not disagreeing with you at all, but I think my point is being completely missed here. My point is not about what Trump has done which is unequivocally bad.
My point is about what we’ve achieved so far. We’ve made enough progress that to combat the “woke virus” they’re having to target first trans people specifically rather than directly removing mentions to LGBTQ+. I’m hopeful about the fact that we’ve achieved so much so far - obviously not about the fact that we’re being persecuted.
The only reason they did not remove the rest of the page is because there is still broader support for gay people.
They are planning to make trans both a mental illness and a sex crime. Separating the T out here is a step towards making that distinction.
It will be a longer and harder journey to do the same for lesbian, gay and bisexual people, but they will once the project is done. But you go after easier targets first to build momentum.

Doubt it. The LGB part of the equation aren’t hard for the average Joe to empathize with, they honestly would have skyrocketed in terms of acceptance years ago without the T group. The first 3 letters are just who you’re attracted to, the last letter is who you are and that’s a much bigger deal to a lot of people.
