Even nnt is now suggesting Zinchenko in LCM. One problem is we don’t know how effective he is higher up the pitch. The other is that would leave us with only one defender on the bench (Kiwior). Timber’s injury strikes again.
We’ve seen the LB (mostly tomi) invert to lcm when we play a double pivot before. Udogie does this quite a lot, as well as sometimes on their right too, so it’s an interesting tweak for sure
Imo Zinchenko is way more effective when he’s deeper, which plays into his strength. The argument though is that we just need anyone who’s secure and a technician there to bring it up a level
The problem is saying things like zinchenko in midfield just fundamentally fails to understand how we play. I don’t really know how you can watch us and say we should play zinchenko in midfield.
He’s already doing it.
It is about having an additional ball-dominant player in midfield, but one who can also take up higher positions without us feeling exposed. Someone like Tomi can then invert next to Rice for our buildup.
With Havertz in LCM, he doesn’t get on the ball that much. Vieira/ESR have defensive issues. With Jorginho, we’d have to play Rice LCM, but if Rice wanders up, Jorginho won’t be able to cover.
