One thing I’ve noticed under Arteta’s reign is more often than not when in transition we slow it down and just pass it back in circles whether it’s coaching instruction or players just can’t. It winds me up we don’t test keepers right away, now some might say if we shoot a errant shot and it rebounds back to the opponent in a dangerous position now what. Well I would just say have faith in our defense, it’s the best no?

I think we are afraid of transitions i think because transitions are bad for rest defense (which cause counter transitions)

seems like Arteta is 100% committed to pep ball this season and it is not beautiful to say the least

eh i think that’s a bit of a stretch. we’ve definitely prioritized control and defense more than usual, since that was the main reason we lost the title last season, but now that we have that platform we’ll start to click offensively more, esp with an easier schedule coming up. we’ve also had front 3 injuries and our captain could be playing better.

overall i still have faith we’ll start playing more of the ball we’ve grown to love

Agree. We need to consolidate and build the foundations at the back. Control the ball, starve the other team of chances, and limit their opportunity for transitional attacks. We need to cut out the errors at the back though, I like to think its a teething issue and its something we can eradicate.

Arteta is trying to make us more of a machine, rather than a free-flowing football team that is ‘entertaining’. If you want ‘entertainment’, go and watch the WWF. This is competitive football and put simply, Arteta wants to minimize the chances other teams create at our end of the pitch.

the best way to win long term is to win by multiple goals tho, and continuously attack, as wenger used to say. constantly grinding out 1 goal games leads us susceptible to flukes / refs / variance. i think ultimately arteta still wants to attack

indeed, our counter-attacks are quite slow this season. A bunch of times when we’ve won the ball, our midfielders slow it down instead of using the extra space
