  • He stuck to his principles which helped modernize football in England but refused to innovate and…adapt to the new modern conditions in the Prem and the standards he was met with in the Champions League. The support available in terms of money and the nouveau rich money he was up against will forever be an interesting conversation. Nonetheless, his recruitment became…middling to bad, his handling of the team became middling to bad, his loyalty was fierce and total, but it left blindspots in personnel, team, coaching and larger club decisions, including the convoluted ownsership setup and the David Dein partnership years to the Ivan Gazidis…transition.

He took on everything and near the end it seemed like it was too much, even though he was immensely successful in his pomp and perhaps one of the greatest managers to ever grace this Earth. The environment had gone from dour to toxic and the results bore that out hand in hand. The same fragility and devastating results, the injuries, the losing of talent, the wage gap, the money able to be spent, the new stadium, the turning of back from players he felt he had been loyal too, and the fans dissapointment turned to anger. It all came together and stewed and burst the last couple seasons. Beautiful football. Always will love Wenger for teaching me the beautiful game in the Arsenal style, including the class in which this Club always behaves. So the toxicity at his leaving was ironic and a bit sad.
