People talked about it non-stop last year. Last year was also quite a bit more impressive than what he’s doing this year. Those early hat tricks were terrifying.
That said, you’ve got a few factors that are causing this and I think they all come into play because he is not getting the hype you would expect from somebody scoring this many goals.
First off, premier League strikers rarely get the hype they deserve.
Second, he often makes it look too easy. I know that might sound counterintuitive but his goals aren’t as sexy as some of the other ones you’re going to see because he is in the right place at the right time and does the right thing almost every time.
Thirdly: he plays for Manchester City. When you have that kind of talent surrounding you and setting you up with so many opportunities to score and often opportunities to score what looks like an easy goal… People just don’t care. So in a way he is punished by being on such a good team.
Lastly: he plays for Man City. A lot of folks, admittedly myself included can’t stand the oil money situation. The new money teams took a lot of the charm out of the game and when they thrive it just feels dirty.
As a player, I don’t think people can really take much away from him. I personally did not believe that he earned the ballon d’Or. I think it finished the way it should have but there’s no doubt he deserved the Puskas. There’s no doubt that he was on the best team in the world and scored the most goals in the history of the premier League. The dude was an animal last year and he’s playing very well again.
As somebody who loves the sport, I hate that this team has a whole buttload of violations that they haven’t had to answer to and the player you’re even referencing I think from what I’ve heard took some behind the scenes money to move to the team. It just makes me care less. It’s like the old Olympic dream team in basketball. Sure, the best players in the world were on that team but did you really care? I mean they were beating up on tiny Eastern European countries that just became independent from the Soviet Union. It was an unfair matchup. Until they figure out how to deal with oil money, it’ll feel dirty. I think that’s totally a shame for Haalland and I think he probably deserves better but that’s my opinion as to how the world hasn’t completely lost their mind over what he’s doing.
As an arsenal fan, we named Henry the king for what he did. I still think he’s probably the best striker of the premier League has ever had but obviously, Halland takes it to another level.
