Any investment or possible “profit” is lost as soon as a road needs repairs. And high-use roads need repairs waaaaay more often and are a lot more expensive than maintaining a rail system.

Highly-used roads are even less profitable since they need expensive repairs much more often.

To your point, though, the idea that every service has to make a profit is most of what’s wrong with me modern society.

I grew up agnostic/atheist in the Bible Belt. There was a lot of casual discrimination, ostracism, and judgement if you weren’t Christian. Even among different churches. I’d have loved for there have been more Christians like you, but unfortunately the TV/Fox News Christians are all over the place down there.

Smoked deviled eggs: throw peeled hard-boiled eggs on the grill or smoker for an hour or so on low indirect heat. The filling is similar to regular deviled eggs, but you swap yellow mustard with Dijon, relish with diced jalapenos, and mix in a couple teaspoons of BBQ rub. Garnish with a jalapeno slice.
