But seriously, it depends on where they’re at so far – do you need to explain offside to them (don’t even try to explain handball) or are we talking tactics? For the former, I would tell them what player or two to watch on the other team, and point out that our beautiful blond #8 is going to try to move the ball around until he has a chance to link up with 7 and 11.

I’ll stop there and add more in a comment if you think they really want to be thinking about tactics.

Came to post the same idea about right vs left, but also: the evidence is clear that Martin prefers the right side, but what if he switched to the left more often? This is based on the idea that defenses are marking him out of the game – if there’s no space on the right, can he find that space on the left? Switch temporarily with Havertz, who should be getting on the end of balls instead of being the facilitator. We see Saka pop up on the left side sometimes, but I feel like that’s rarer with Odegaard.

It’s very possible that this is a stupid idea, so I’m very open to hearing why that is. (Or that they’ve already tried this and I missed it)
