Worst EV so far imho. Highway Consumption will be off the chart:
• Weight 2818kg (!)
• Cd: 0,29
• Range 600km @ slow WLTP
• 107kWh to compensate

There are 3 ways to heat an EV. In order of simplest & most energy consuming to most complex t & least energy consuming:
( • resistance seat heater ) • resistance heater • heat pump external only • heat pump external & internal
Resistance heater = simple stick, run a current through it = heat. Efficiency = 100%. You need ~4kW of heat to heat up the interior, battery, etc. This costs ~4kW
Heat pump external = AC pump in reverse, pumps outside heat to the interior. Efficiency =100-400%. 4kW of heat now costs 1kW at best and 4kW when it’s colder than -15C.
Heat pump internal & external = same as the external, but more complex. This also scavenges heat from motors, electronics, pumps, battery pack and so on. Works more efficiently & more efficient in cold weather.
I tend to lose ~1% per day in cold weather.
For that energy loss the car is still connected to cellular & the battery pack protection is still running.
Not worth shutting it down.
Ah yes another JAPANESE concept car / media outing……
Nonsense & FUD:
• Nonsense: There’s nothing indicating any of this is about to happen.
• FUD: There’s no indication 500mile+ range or 350kW+ charging are the limiting factor in BEV sales. PRICE is much bigger factor.
BEVs won’t have that range. Range = energy / consumption.
• Energy: there’s no reason to think energy density will be double AND that high density batteries become affordable in the coming decade.
• Consumption: Air drag & rolling resistance wont get significantly lower AKA general consumption can drop to current Tesla Model 3 levels.
• Charging: energy must be doubled for your range prediction. You think that will happen AND charging speeds will double AND batteries will become affordable… Nope.
Sorry but slow incremental steps is what’s happening, no revolutionary doubling numbers….
Any remotely positive piece about Tesla = downvotes incoming….
All comes down to engineering. They go further than anyone else.
Weight means their cars have a lower rolling resistance causing less consumption.
Cd means their cars have a lower air drag resistance causing less consumption.
Integration of systems means: every part is designed by them, not bought from several big suppliers. All parts speak the same language, all parts work together maximally. This means less consumption by auxiliary systems.
Add these up and you’re there.
