Just got the LE, I guess it went back in stock? I’m worried it’s an error and it should’ve read out of stock but we’ll see. I got stuck on the “too many purchases” problem and just kept jamming the button until it cleared up. PayPal wasn’t working as an option so I just paid with a card that’s linked to my PayPal account and it went through.
I think the SSD will probably be the only directly swappable part as I think they are keeping the same 2230 format or whatever it’s called. So long as they keep the same SSD format then yours will fit. However, it’s unlikely it’ll just work as it’s an entirely new system and will probably require formatting etc.
Which are you happier with and enjoy actually playing games on more? You don’t need the internet to make a decision for you. The purpose of these devices is to play games and enjoy doing it. Pick the one that brings you more joy, the one that you end up grabbing more often when you’re ready to relax and game for a bit.
My guess is no but you never know. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a Christmas sale though which inevitably will make everyone who just purchased the SD OLED a little salty (including myself). I’m debating waiting another month so (a) I can maybe nab a sale price and (b) won’t have to stress about inventory levels and racing to get an order in. But I’ll probably succumb to impulsiveness and buy one on 11/16.
A higher refresh screen will always feel smoother and more responsive regardless of frame rate because the screen is refreshing more often. Playing TW3 at 60fps on the Ally’s 120hz screen feels really, really good. The downside of this SD refresh is that the device won’t perform any better, it’s still going to push 30-45fps in a lot of games. But that experience is going to feel tremendously better on the new screen because (1) it’s OLED with amazing colors and contrast, (2) OLED has near instant response time leading to a faster and snappier experience, and (3) 30Hz more refresh rate will be noticeably smoother compared to 60Hz.
Not at all. My SD is a companion to my PC to allow me to seamlessly continue games where I left off whether that’s in the couch, in bed, or on the go. But as a longtime PC gamer, the SD is going to have to get a lot more powerful before it can legitimately replace my PC gaming setup on an OLED ultrawide with a 4080.
