Ford did this with the GT. They claim that they tried to only sell the car to people who would go out and show off the car. GM said that they would remove the warranty from Z06’s that were flipped. Ferrari does it differently where they have their own hierarchical list of people who can buy the new cars and you can move up the list by buying old Ferrari and less desirable new Ferraris. If you sell to flip one they just take away your ability to buy new Ferraris.
I think this is different though. I think there will be Tesla fanatics who will over pay for the truck. However, I think many of the people will receive this and be filled with regret after finding out how terrible it is and that the F-150 lightning and R1T are so much better. This inability to sell will either force people to keep them or sell back to Tesla at a massive loss so Tesla can try to resell them.
