Americans are now considered morons (left and right leaning)
Why the left-leaning ones? Because we didn’t do enough to prevent this catastrophe?

Unwelcome where, exactly?
the language is bullshit
i don’t think it’s worth learning french for almost any reason
Personally I’m learning French because it’s the language of bande dessinée, and in order to enjoy more BD, plus run my sublemmy more effectively, it’s an obvious choice.
Anyway I find French much harder than Spanish, but am slowly getting the hang of it… I think. Gender is complete BS to me, and it seems like there are tonnes of little grammar rules to follow. Is that why you called it bullshit, yourself?
…I have never heard another person say those things.
Haha, I can totally relate to someone making up expressions, then sticking with them. For example, a couple I made up for whatever reason, and still employ with a frequency:
.
EDIT: Oh, and my grandpère used to loudly exclaim “Fiddlesticks!” when he was obviously angry or deeply annoyed. I’ve never heard that term used ever across old literature, films, etc.
EDIT2: Back when the TV series Deadwood was running, I remember someone online asking ‘why are they swearing using completely modern terms?’ and someone else answering ‘because if the show used authentic curse words, the characters would all sound like variants of Yosemite Sam.’
I dunno, speaking as a Naked Gun / Zucker fan, I think I might have enjoyed that! :P
Just to sideways add-on: as we know, unhealthy stuff can sometimes be replaced and upgraded with something else. Let’s take white rice. It so happens that there are other grains that are more nutritious and fibre-rich than even brown or wild rice. It also steps around the issue or rice naturally containing arsenic, which could be an issue for rice lovers. Substitutes might be things like barley and wheat berries.
Personally I’ve found steel-cut oats to be my very favorite rice replacement. Very nutritious, and I even prefer the flavor. They also naturally have a nice, calming quality, not unlike hops, valerian, skullcap, etc.
How to use? Well, SC oats can seamlessly replace rice 1:1 in soups & stews, no problemo. As a side dish, one will probably want to rinse them after cooking, as it can get a little slimey, a bit like sushi rice.
Yes, people seem to commonly associate “oats” with breakfast, but steel-cut oats are a different beast than rolled oats. They taste significantly different due to being whole, and less processed. Give it a try if you’re daring, and I think you might be pleasantly surprised!
Man… every single day since the election, I shake my head and spend time thinking ‘Americans, you had one job…’ It’s just unreal.
So yeah, I haven’t been truly depressed for quite a few years, but some of these recent days have been kind of brutal. ASAP I’ll have to get back on my meds, which unfortunately give me side-effects, but oh well.
Maby I can do a few more posts in the coming days… I rather enjoyed this, and there’s a few more amazing artists on my shelf.
Sweet! ^^
Do we still consider British authors as European? Because I’m dying to do a spread or two on Alan Moore
Yes, fire away. :-)
Oops, that’s right! Thanks for the correction.
Btw, I did a post about her here: https://lemm.ee/post/13018109
In terms of Dutch artists, seems like there’s many more to explore…!
Wow. oO
I remember writing about Douwe Dabbert, Esther Verkest, and… some other major Dutch characters & cartoonists, but…
I’m getting old, my memory is fading, and… haha, so this is nice!
Aimée de Jongh!
Okay yeah, let’s see about her works across upcoming posts…
Wah? Et voyez-vous notre barre latérale?
Ce sont des “bande dessinée!” (“BD”)
(sorry, sorry, my bad. I get worked up sometimes, I’m sorry)
Side question-- does Rotterdam have a BD museum of sorts?
like, you know…
Merci beaucoup!
So then, I will start with Le retour!
Ooh, ooh, did I also hear you say that you’d be willing to make a post on our sub about de Jongh? That would be so amazing, if you could. T_T
Gosh, there’s so many great female cartoonists in the genre, and altho I’ve done my best to feature them myself, I still feel like I’m letting them down, on the whole. Plus of course, so many of the lesser-known talents in BD.
(argh, my version of “heaven” is being able to finally touch on every BD creator, ever, until I have to go, one day)
Unbelievable.
It’s sort of the anti-Clinton, full of wonkish facts of the time, but like the coming admin, directed towards blame and hate.
Which too-often snags the common person in to a vague basket of ‘yeah, we gotta get those guys!’ sentiment.
Oh, wow, thank you!
Will edit that in, above…
Thanks; good advice and I appreciate it. <3
Eh, you know what?
I don’t think you’re quite as horrible a goblin as some say you are! ^^
Awesome; glad to hear it! :D
And dammit…
I don’t think I’ve read de Jongh yet. Could you pick one these for me, please?

My late cat Tove (Astrid´s sister) was named after Jansson.
Waitasecond, waitasecond… but Astrid is only 5-6yo, right?
Dare I ask what happened to to her sister Tove…?
Haha, it won’t of course,
but it’s a nice gesture. :D
Thanks for the honest reply!
Thanks for the reply, matey.
So, assuming I’m getting all that correctly, then you seem like you’re prone to spinning-up some dark fun which suits *you*, but not necessarily the object of the joke, necessarily.
TBH, I’ve struggled with that myself, many-a-time. Argh…
Some of these are obviously not going to age well for younger audiences, but I feel like this is one which shows of how quirky and unique this strip was back in 1981.
Sure, it had some obvious Doonesbury inflections, but it ran with things in lots of different ways.
