US and UK governments " If only there were really clear signs that people were being harmed, but please don’t compare to when we invaded other countries to liberate people… "

Would be great of the sanctioning hearing / decisions were made public and accountable.

Where did you hear that we or our systems are xenophobic? I live, work and travel here.

Embarrassed to say, thats usually me. Brit humour not the best for international conversation.

Oops - will delete my post. Some days I miss the obvious. Apologies

@tedesche@lemmy.world sad and upsetting to think this. The cost of retaining the items is likely less than the cost of structured destruction.

Thank you for all your efforts in what appears to be an often thankless job.
Let’s pass the hat around and raise some funds!

Europe experienced a “brain drain” for quite a few years to the US. I suspect that a lot of talented US citizens will be looking at the rest of the world to set up home, careers and families.

He’ll quieten down once he receives Peace Prize from them.

I have a clinical colleague who worked in the US for a few years. I think their description of US healthcare is best summarized as follows. Has the potential to be the greatest on Earth. In reality, the quality of care provided is far below European standards. She was mortified to discover that diabetics routinely had below knee amputations whereas in the rest of the world, with the exact same clinical picture, care would be provided to prevent worsening of diabetic foot.

To the rest of the civilised world, “pessimistic” is one way to describe it. In Europe and the UK, we have a lovely, easy to access and very low cost, efficient health service. (Ignoring current attempts to asset strip the NHS to set up private healthcare, to which I routinely ask people to compare themselves to Americans)

Do US citizens not have a sense of the damage and loss of knowledge and recall the German Nazi’s burning of books? I think I know the answer and it is too maddening.

Great observation and one that becomes increasingly meaningful the more that we think about it

Agree with this chaps ideas here. We are not advocating for European variant of MAGA though. We need to shift the balance of economic, technical and environmental power. The US is too happy to destroy the environment, economies and nations for an economic model that destroys everything to gain the extra buck

I wasn’t especially feeling mournful for the billionaire guy who ignored ALL the engineers. I do lament that his son who didn’t want to go in the first place was effectively coerced into joining the trip. As an experimental design, the guy could have gone by himself to test it, if a remote controlled operation wasn’t an option. But no, his ego led to the death of his son and some hapless people who were also tricked.

That gut wrench, every single time they brag about this. I am not religious but would take up praying for these evil bastards to face the same music, as abhorrent as that is.
Orbans Hungary is what the UK will become if we vote for Farage or similar shitheads.
