I would say dont get a deck if you have a pc. But if your pc is going unused you can sell it. And if you are without a pc then i can recommend a handheld pc ie steamdeck. Just my opinion, dont like wasting money on redundant hardware.

You can set timer to turn off display in desktop mode. So use desktop mode for long downloads with like 5min auto off timer on display while deck is downloading.

Red alert 3.

I am about to list strategy games. I do not recommend playing them without mouse, even a 10 dollar mouse will work fine. All games below is recommend with all dlc, they are all good.

Command and Conquer Red Alert 3(best game to be introduced to strategy genre)\Red Alert Uprising\Tiberium Wars\Kanes Wrath, Total War Warhammer 3 and 2(also buy 1 but not for playing 1 as 1 is basically dlc for 2 and 3)(use linux native version as it uses vulkan while windows version crashes), Ashes of singularity, Civilization 5 and Beyond Earth and 6, Stellaris, Xcom Enemy Unknown and 2, Starcraft 1 remastered and 2, Supreme Commander 1 and 2, Sins of a Solar Empire, Battlestar Gothic Armada 1 and 2, Riftbreaker, Warhammer 40k Gladius Relics of War, Chicken Invaders 2 3 4 and 5.

Games that are on console but are vastly better on pc due to mods- Fallout 4, Call of Duty Black Ops 3(Zombies mode).

I actually just recommend you get the steamdeck oled alone if you are not gaming much anyway. Dont bother with another gaming device when you cant even spend your day playing with 1. Instead add 1.5tb microsd card to the steamdeck and replace its internal ssd with 2tb so you can have tons of games right on the deck, no need for streaming anything with the 3.5tb combined ondeck capacity.

Speaking of 4090 streaming, one interesting thing i found is that you can play cybperpunk 2077 with pathtracing on with native steamdeck resolution at its 90hz rate via streaming. Looks and feels amazing. 90fps fully pathtraced gaming in the palm of your hand.

Get official dock. Dont get controller, steam deck itself is lierally a xbox controller. Instead get mouse and keyboard. You have less space so get something called tkl ie ten key less keyboards, they are much smaller. Both keyboard and mouse should be wired preferably.

It works on the oled model. Many reviewers have confirmed it.

I have seen youtube videos of it working with wacom tablet and the pen. And some other digital drawing pads.

Steam deck oled is not out so we dont know what game is the best for it, meaning low load enough to run at 90fps while having hdr to use the new display. For older steamdeck best games i found was Fallout 4, 60fps at high settings at native resolution, even fully modded.
