I’m getting a Deck finally now that the OLED model is releasing and battery life is significantly improved. The hardware has such good potential for so many games but I honestly have no idea what I’m actually going to use it for lol.
The best ideas I can come up with are basically every Bethesda RPG, Bioshock, turn based JRPG (like Octopath), and Halo. Idk if any of those are really like must have games that are system sellers. Maybe I’m just picky. I dunno.
My question would be what are things you use your Deck for? Either top 3 or top 5 would be nice. It’s like a half “what do you do” and half “what should I do” with the Deck. What is the game(s) that made the purchase worth it?
Midnight Suns
Mass Effect LE
Sekiro
Battletech
Cyberpunk 2077
This past week I just tried out Vampire Survivors and got immediately hooked on it. But other than that one:
- Knights of the Old Republic II. Runs perfectly.
- Cyberpunk
- Baldur’s Gate 3 (although bad Act 3 performance)
Sniper elite 5 Civ 6 Desperados 3 Combat masters Northgard
Witcher 3 , Horizon Zero Dawn, bunch of switch games
Quake
Quake
Quake
Quake
OpenMW
Dead cells, Hades, Diablo III, Portal, Dredge.
Usually the ones that work best with gaming pads arenmy favorite. Planning to buy elden ring since it seems very good
(1) Witcher 3 Complete Edition
(2) Baldur’s Gate 3
(3) The Last of Us Part 1
(4) Red Dead Redemption 2
(5) Alan Wake 2
Steam deck oled is not out so we dont know what game is the best for it, meaning low load enough to run at 90fps while having hdr to use the new display. For older steamdeck best games i found was Fallout 4, 60fps at high settings at native resolution, even fully modded.
No order:
Tomb Raider (2013) Red Dead Redemption 2 Spider-Man Remastered Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Edition Watch_Dogs 2
Honorable: Mafia Definitive Edition Dead Space 2023 Kena Bridge of Spirits Mad Max Quatum Break (if the damn live action episodes weren’t broken it might be top of my list. Watch them on YouTube)
Battle for Middle Earth 2, Heroes of Might and Magic III, Valheim, Civilization V, Medieval Total War 2
Did not expect anyone to say BFME2 lol. Love love love that game. Always played RTS with keyboard/mouse though.
You can play Total War titles with the touchpads?
Brotato, Stardew Valley.
I’ve been on the fence about getting Brotato. It looks like a simpler version of Vampire Survivors.
It’s a different game from vs. vs for me was a bit too slow and more repetitive. Still enjoyed it but at this point I probably got more enjoyment out of brotato. Brotato is missing any kind of meaningful meta progression, but the huge variety of characters keeps it really interesting.
It might look simpler, but it has a lot of debt and complexity. Some YouTubers post their complete run videos on their channels. You can see their videos and get a good sense of the game without really spoiling too much.
I just got brotato, vampire survivors and halls of torment is better imo
Stardew Valley
Halo MCC
GRID (2008)
Burnout Paradise
Wreckfest
Dave the Diver, dead cells, elden ring, Hades, vampire survivors.
But mainly use it as a handheld emulator for lots of other gen consoles. So I would also put Pokémon infinite fusion up there as one of my fav games on the deck. I don’t play many AAA games on my deck, as I normally play them on the pc or PS5, but playing elden ring on my travels is a treat.
Infinite Fusion is almost unbelievable. For anyone curious, you are able to fuse any two Pokémon together to create a fusion. There are rules for how it works, but you can make some awesome and broken combos.
The fan community has made thousands of unique fan arts for the sprites of the fusions, since I think there are over 17,000 potential combinations.
1.) Hades Beautiful, endlessly replayable, still one of the most played games every month on Steam Deck. Can be played for minutes or hours. A perfect portable game that’s best played on Steam Deck. 2.) Hollow Night My first game I completed on Steam Deck. I bounced off Hollow Night on PC, but the ability to play away from my desk got me to complete this game. It’s the first game that showed me the Steam Deck can be the ultimate backlog killer. 3.) Fallout 4 Runs at a nearly locked 60fps out of the box and roving around the wasteland is endlessly fun. Fallout 4 lends itself to portable play way more than I expected because of all the bite-sized side content on offer. 4.) Ori and the Will of the Wisps Metroidvanias are perfect for the portable form factor, and Ori’s gorgeous visuals running at 60fps without any compromises is something to behold. I cannot wait to replay this game on Steam Deck OLED in HDR. It’s going to be glorious. 5.) Doom Eternal God-tier optimization. The fact that something that looks as good as Doom eternal runs on a portable system at all let alone at 60fps on high settings is witchcraft. I never thought I would enjoy this game or any FOS away from mouse and keyboard but the controls in Doom Eternal are tuned to perfection.
Plate up!, fallout 76, rogue legacy 2, vampire survivors, monster train
Ah. Rogue Legacy was the roguelite game I was thinking of. Everytime you die, restart as a descendant of your character with random traits and abilities I think. That’s a really good one. I love the art style on the 2nd game too.
