iPhone users should stop paying for visual voicemail with the big telcos Rogers, Telus, and Bell, as the free Live Voicemail feature from iOS 17 can save you money every month. This is a public service announcement to review your monthly cellphone bill and to leverage Apple’s free and better voicemail service that debuted in the fall.

That looks amazing. Here’s hoping Android gets a similar feature.

    And fuck Rogers/Telus/Bell.

Google Pixel phones have a screen call function that seems the same as this.

I don’t know if it’s technical limitations (it’s probably just greed), but I can’t imagine that this stays exclusive to Pixels for much longer.

The problem with screen call is that it’s really limited in Canada vs the US. You can’t set it up to screen automatically, so you still have to physically pick up the phone and watch the transcript in real time.

I just want to say that the screen call function is so good that I don’t think I’ll buy another phone without that feature if at all possible. Also creating the automatic menu for calling some customer service numbers is fantastic too.

Sign on with Freedom if you can. They’re now owned by Videotron/Quebecor, completely independent of those shitheads. I’ve been with them for around 10 years I think, back when they were still wind mobile. Service is a bit spotty at times but they frequently have those all of canada/usa plans which are great.

Thank you!! I wasn’t totally sure if I could cancel it or not and hadn’t gotten around to confirming. Much appreciated!

Will this still allow me to receive messages if my phone is not connected to the network? (On a flight, dead battery, etc?)

If your phone is off or not connected to the network then carrier voicemail would take effect.

I have carrier voicemail that’s included with my plan but stopped paying the extra $5 /mo for “visual voicemail”. I still have carrier voicemail but just have to dial in to listen to those messages.
