Why does mkfs.ntfs default to zeroing out the partition

    @i_lost_my_bagel@mastodon.lilysthings.org Because people using it are used to Windows so they’re also used to wait on unnecessary slow system operations ? I’ll see myself out…

    But more seriously it’s because it’s a good practice. It allow easier recovery and all.

    But it’s really long if you have, like me, a non-ssd drive of 5 TO (It would take about 2 days at full disk speed to dd to 0 every bit of it).
