I can relate the “dad way” to this… Everything feels worth it.

But more seriously it’s because it’s a good practice. It allow easier recovery and all.
But it’s really long if you have, like me, a non-ssd drive of 5 TO (It would take about 2 days at full disk speed to dd to 0 every bit of it).
