In the days of player empowerment and constant moving around teams, it feels like there are more players than ever that are guarantees for the Hall… but possibly no teams that want to hang their number in the rafters. Who do you reckon falls into this category?
Surprised no one has said it but Kyrie. Maybe the Cavs but definitely not any of the other teams.
Well he didn’t do shit with any of the other teams
I think he has about a 99% chance of being retired by the Cavs.
nah I dont think so
the way he left was so ugly and he really wasnt there very long
Beggars can’t be choosers, Cleveland has one championship in its history, and Kyrie was the 2nd best player for the run and hit the biggest shot.
I think Kyrie would have to do a whole kiss-ass thing after his retirement to get himself back into the good graces of whoever owns the team by that time. Problem is, I doubt he would ever do that, he seems like the type of guy who would retire and then just completely disappear from public life. No NBA talking head segments, no comment on current players, people will just randomly run into him wearing a hoodie and dominating at a park somewhere on a Sunday afternoon.
Was there 6 years, 4 of which were all star seasons. More than he’s played anywhere else by far.
We’re also talking about a franchise who retired Nate Thurmonds number after playing there for a season and a half.
Nah Kyrie is not well liked for how he left and the descent into crazy afterword. Lebron and Love are confirmed though
Love said recently that Irving should absolutely have his number retired by the team.
Love isn’t a spokeperson for the team. He sucked, got overpaid, through tantrums, got benched, then waived by the Cavs. The peak of his career was being on that 2016 team and he’s just riding that like Kyrie.
That’s an absolutely ridiculous stance, Kyrie Irving was hands down, by a mile, more important than Kevin Love in bringing the only title in the history of the Cavs franchise, ending a 50-year drought for the city of Cleveland. Not only that, he also hit the shot that basically won the series in an epic comeback, if he doesn’t get his jersey retired, then nobody should.
That’s not even mentioning some of the players that have their jerseys retired by the Cavs, it would be an absolute joke if Kyrie didn’t have his.
They don’t get that far without Love.
LeBron is a guarantee.
Love is a hard maybe.
Kyrie fucked around too much with the city to garner the carried respect. Sucked before LeBron came back, hasn’t done shit since LeBron.
He hit a once in a lifetime shot. Great. What the hell else?
They don’t get that far without everyone else that was on the court, what’s your point? Kyrie was still far and away more important than love, it’s not debatable.
The Cavs should but it wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t/Kyrie seems like the kind of dude who wouldn’t even want it. I think the entire Big 3 should be up there tho
It’d be the only jersey retirement where the honoree was forbidden to speak lmao
Cavs will probably retire his number. He was instrumental and got the game 7 winning 3 pointer in 2016. No way in hell Boston or Nets doing it lol. And Mavs is unknown, if he wins a title with Luka then yeah we probably will, but I’m highly skeptical otherwise, he hasn’t played at the all star level consistently that we expected yet this season.
He doesnt deserve it anywhere
Well, they already gave #2 to sexton and Ty Jerome
They can retire, but I don’t think is going to be 100% like lebron or love
Is he a HOFer? 8x all star, Chip, 2xall second team, 1x all third team. Rookie of the year. I’m not sure that gets in
Is he a hall of famer?
Yeah. 93% here: https://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/hof_prob.html
Surprisingly, this link shows a list that has Kyrie and Paul George with a higher probability of getting HOF than Nikola Jokic lol
Longer careers. BKRef probability has longevity built in to their formula.
Even if Jokic averaged like 10 ppg from here on out, he’d eclipse both in a few seasons.
