As the title states, what vehicle are you a huge fan of but would never want to deal with the ownership experience?
For me, I think all the early 1900’s high-end luxury cars are awesome. Rolling around in a 1920s Rolls Royce or Duesenberg would give you instant Batman or Bond Villian energy and I think that’s awesome. However, knowing that parts don’t exist for those cars, and the mechanical upkeep that needs to be done just to drive them would be financial suicide.
The Dodge Tomahawk motorcycle with the V12 Viper engine. I’d love to ride one but I’d never own it. It’s too big, bulky, and weights a ton. My Kawasaki ZX-12r only weighs 463 pounds. The Tomahawks weight 919 pounds. Imagine laying that thing down and still being alive afterwards just to find out that you can’t set it back upright again because it’s too heavy.
Ariel Atom. Super fun to drive, but it’s a very impractical car as a daily driver.
Nissan 300zx is a dream car of mine but no way I can do the upkeep on one.
An Alfa Giulia. For the price of a CPO one, you can get a beautiful car with a solid driving experience and tons of uniqueness compared to basically every other sedan out there for the price of a new Camry.
And while the 2020+ 2.0T cars seem to be relatively reliable, the US dealer network may as well be nonexistent, with indie shops no better. End result is if basically anything goes sideways, the car is on a flatbed for at least 100 miles to be fixed… and that’s in a region in the US where Alfa dealers are more “common.”
any older lotus. I love the styling but im told they have a terrrrrrible build quality
VW Corrado VR6. Sounds amazing, drives mediocre, I’d hate to drive it as a daily but I’d do it anyway just because of the sound…
996 C4S - the M96 engine just has so many ways to kill itself. But I want the car badly. 996 Turbo is far more reliable due to its Mezger engine but I honestly don’t want that much power.
I would love to own a VW Phateon, but the potential for financial ruin is just so high.
RX8
750il v12
Ford GT (mk2 I guess, the early 00’s one)
Viper first gen
Fiat 126 ( like hens teeth in North America)
McLaren 720S. So damn cool, ridiculously fast, looks incredible and I’m sure drives sublime
But absolutely no way am I dealing with the horrendous reliability problems, the horror stories are endless
1993 land-rover range rover county in ardennes green
Mazda rx8. I love the look, and I can make custom body panels to make it look even better (I had a 6 month autistic stint of photoshopping, planning, pricing, and resourcing rx8s). But the renesis motor is impossible to make power out of without custom irons and housings, and that’s something I don’t ever plan on venturing into. Love the idea of a track focused rx8, hate the reality of it.
It HAS to be the e60 m5
