I went into the dealership for the 40k mile service which involved some fluid changes, tire rotation and brake wear test. I walked out of there $1300 poorer, after they nickel and dimed me for a bunch of other things that came up during the inspection. I even turned down some of the “suggested services.” I won’t be going back there again. Anyone else get this treatment?

Didnt you agree to all of this before they did it? Ive never went anywhere to have my vehicle checked and mysterious charges were just dumped on me. You agreed to all of that somewhere before they did it. Should be blaming yourself

Hey dude, learn from it. Gotta do some research before spending cash, just like anything else.

Now you know why they are called “stealerships.” However, you had to know before they did the work, because they would’ve needed your approval before moving forward. That’s where they get you. If your car has 40k miles on it, even $650 would’ve been too high. If you had more miles on it, then it is possible. It’s a Toyota. They are generally easy to service and maintain with an exception of a few models (V8 models and MR2s come to mind).

Had a friend who’s father owned a dealership up in North Dakota. He said they made a majority of their profits on service. The Service Advisor is there to upsell you on everything they possibly can, even stuff that you don’t need. You can find decent mechanics that will do the same services for less and they won’t try to upsell you. It also won’t void any warrantees. Screw the dealerships.

Yeah, it’s not hard to say " Not right now I’d like to wait and do some research". Fuck just make something up for God’s sake. Tell them you don’t have the money right now or or if the dealer will pay for it you can do it.

Please watch the Car Care Nut on You Tube. Former Toyota Tech. Great advice. Must watch for all Toyota owners.
