I’d like to buy either an M440 or M340. I went to the dealer today and looked at a blacked out 2024 M340 special edition with tacora red interior. Car looks really sporty.

Talking to the sales guy, he’s like have you considered a 5 series - it may for your style a little better. I took it to mean you’re too old for the sporty 3 series.

I’m 38 years old, is that too old for an M340 or M440? I do need to look professional for work in front of clients, so I’m concerned they might think I’m an old guy in a young guys car. Thoughts appreciated!

lol I’m the opposite… was 27 when I got my first 8 series and now 29 on my second 8 series(m850i gran coupe). You like what you like and age should not matter!

Haven’t heard of any policy barring people over 30 from buying a 3 series

To be fair to the sales guy, he was super nice. Told him I have kids and he brought up the 5 series as being a bit bigger. Again, appreciate the comments!

The 5 Series offers more room in the trunk and back seat and you have kids. Don’t think it’s about you being too old.

    As far as bmw is concerned 2 series (18-25) 3/4 series (25-35) 5/6 series (35-55) 7/8 series (55+)

That being said… Fuck a salesman’s thoughts, buy what you can afford that puts a smile on your face, test drive them, make sure the choice is right for you

I would be very surprised if their sales demographics match those first two groups.

I don’t think it’s about being too old to enjoy the car. It’s about possibly being old enough to afford the 5 series equivalent, which is an up-sell. He’s just a slimey salesman doing slimey salesman things.

Wouldn’t worry about it. Try both, he could be right, or he could be wrong.

HA - I’m about that age and just bought an M2 (after an A90 supra), get the car you want, don’t listen to them if that’s not what you want.

Every time I take my car in for anything they try to sell me a “upgrade” to 5 or 8 series. It’s their job to try and get as much money out of you hah

They just need to slap the S68 in the M3 like the OG and call that an upgrade. I don’t need a boat for a car.

It’s just an upsell. Most people under 40 can’t afford to buy an almost $70k car. If there were implied age limits, then the 3 series wouldn’t exist.

Appreciate the comments! I too thought he was just up selling but the M340 was like $71 and the 5 series was just under $75.

Imma go with my gut and get the 3 series. Thanks again!

If you are worried about it get a different sales guy who will listen to what you want. I sold my 335 and was trying to buy an x5M and the sales guy kept telling me how great the x3 was an insisted I look at them. I am sure it’s because I am young, despite having purchased from them before and being very specific as to what I want. I got the feeling he didn’t think I could afford the car. I eventually called the sales manager and told him his sales guy cost them a huge sale and bought an Acura instead.

If you are getting bad vibes find someone else.

My wife’s boss is in his 70s and just got a M340. Age is but a number. If your heart wants a 340, then get a 340.
