Hi, lovely people! I have around 600+ hours on BG3, so yes, I am definitely enjoying it a lot. However, I’m trying to think of what to play next. A few people have recommended Cyberpunk to me, so I did get that, and it runs well. Nooot sure how I like it just yet. Are there any other, like, RPG games, that have character customization, that also run well on the deck?

Thank you in advance! Apologies if this isn’t the right sub to post this on, I haven’t been on Reddit in a hot minute.

People suggest this a lot, but I find it unreadably small. On an external monitor maybe, or if you have teenager eyes and like squinting.

Yeah, I was using the Magnifying Glass but constantly holding down Steam + L1 was a pain. However I figured out you can make it a toggle by mapping it to one of the back buttons.

I assume OP already tried Divinity 2 but if not, absolutely get it. Same developers and a ton of mods at this point.

I might also recommend XCOM to see if you like other strategy games.

I love XCOM 2 and have played and beat it on PC. It was the first game I downloaded on my deck, but I can’t get the workshop mods to work? Have you had better luck? Only thread I found was years old and was a little intense for someone not familiar with Linux to figure out

oh man…even the original xcom game is still a ton of fun. it came out in like 94? it’s a turn based strategy game with economy building, resource management, etc. xCom, terror from the deep, and then the 2 modern games are fantastic. the other games in the series…we don’t talk about those games

If you end up liking xcom, try out marvel midnight suns. Not as much character customization when it comes to cosmetics and such, but a lot when it comes to builds and stuff. It’s a really unique strategic game and I enjoyed my playthrough quite a bit.

Thirding this, Midnight Suns runs really nicely on the Deck, I played the whole thing on it and it was fab.

Midnight Suns runs great on the Deck, but be warned, you will definitely have FPS drops in the Abbey hub area.

Seconding this. Wasn’t such a fan of XCOM personally but thought Midnight Suns was great, and solid on the deck. If you are going to nab it, maybe wait for the deluxe version to go on sale. Contains DLC with extra characters you’ll want, and the lone DLC itself is rarely on sale.

The sales are pretty good for it too: If it’s still active, Steam has it down to $30 for the deluxe, i’d you have Humble Choice you can snag it off the Humble website for $25.

You may also like the Pathfinder series. Wrath of the Righteous is really fun, but it is a bit harder to get into than Divinity Original Sin 2.

Xcom 2 control schemes suck a lot on the deck. It’s one of my fav games of all time but I can’t deal with the control. I played alot of it previously on pc.

it’s all preference right. Some games i’ve been playing mouse and keyboard for like 10 years and it’s super hard for me, as a non console gamer, to adapt to the steam deck. Other games that I have never played on the pc I’m having very little issue playing on the steam deck. So it just depends on your experience as a gamer and your experience with a specific game. civ is another game that is just impossible for me to play on the steam deck because of the control scheme. I’m sure the control scheme is fine, i just can’t get used to it after like 1200 hours in civ6 with a keyboard and mouse.

I definitely liked the story of the first one more, and the party members and most of the NPCs. But the mechanics and cohesion of 2 is a lot better. I’m not sure how well the first would play on the Steam Deck; its controller support is pretty rough IIRC.

1 is certainly good, but 2 is basically “everything you loved from 1, but prettier and bigger.” So people tend to go for that one.

1s story was a bit of a silly afterthought. 2s story is more meaty (the characters are unique and presage to bg3) but still pretty silly. Both games are about systems and scenarios more than a plot.

Yes, but this is not really a story driven game (and to the extent that it is, the story from 2 is much better than the story from one). The story is an excuse to shoot aliens.
