So I bought my first actually new car (a Corolla) in August and kept getting harassed by some company named Athena.

The part that got me was charging almost $400 a month for a year for stuff that’s under warranty for most of that period anyhow.

  • for me, this would’ve made it so I pay EIGHT HUNDRED a month on my car. Hell to the no.
  • last time I checked, Toyota’s are super reliable (unlike the car I got rid of. Lol).
  • Camry’s and Corolla’s are “budget” cars.

I don’t know how these companies get people’s info, but we bought a used rav 4 for cash for our daughter, and with 2 weeks we were getting bombarded by third party extended warranty companies.

The part that was funny was that they acted like they were giving me some sort of a deal.

$400 a month on top of my car payment. This is a freaking Corolla, not some Porsche. And it didn’t even actually go beyond the warranty Toyota gave me. And yeah, it’s a new car so there’s absolutely the factory warranties and all (unlike with used cars).

They buy the info directly from the state (dmv or equivalent). Car purchase history is apparently public information, and they buy it in bulk.

Dealership is not involved, talk to your state reps if you want to stop it. Hint: they won’t, since it doesn’t affect them personally and it’s income for their state.
