So I live in an apartment complex currently, and I bought a tune for my audi Q5. I also just bought a battery charger since I don’t want to risk messing up my ECU.
I for some reason figured I’d be able to charge the battery charger, unplug it after some time, then just use it portably. I was wrong. It needs to be plugged in to use.
So if you were in my shoes, where would you flash your ECU? Are there known places that have power outlets near places to park?
you need to have your battery on a trickle charger to flash a tune?
I’m out of the loop since I’m running aftermarket ecu on a pre obd2 car … it doesn’t have such a requirement
I would just go somewhere like an auto parts store, a place where the employees are likely into cars. Buy something, regular maintenance items or otherwise, and just ask them if you can use an outlet. Most places will have outlets outside. Hopefully they’re cool with it then just do your thing outside the store.

You were thinking of a jump pack. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/AVAPOW-Battery-Portable-23800mAh-Vehicles/dp/B08NPHZV8N/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3S4OQ1RHDHTLI
Do you have a friend that has a garage? Maybe an extension cord from your apartment?
A buddy of mine who does a lot of camping has a portable solar generator thing that might be feasible… not sure which one he had but something like this https://www.walmart.com/ip/PECRON-E600LFP-614Wh-1200W-Portable-Power-Station-Solar-Generator-LiFePO4-Battery-for-Camping-RV-Home-Backup-Outdoor-Emergency/1304938986?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101132533&gclsrc=aw.ds&&adid=222222222271304938986_101132533_150868523029_20369052668&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=665693022399&wl4=pla-1964598910726&wl5=9057544&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=551716940&wl11=online&wl12=1304938986_101132533&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAu9yqBhBmEiwAHTx5pzwScVrkR8W8s1q0EdkfoeQ1MV4ImKMSAAgSee2bpxYtqxeu-0pLNBoCGEoQAvD_BwE might work
When camping I’ve seen small, portable generators that were actually solar, had a few outlets BUT is your parking area secure enough where you could use it and not have it ripped off?
If I were in your shoes i’d ask for a refund on that tune XD
Adding power is done by upping boost, which puts more stress on everything. This is an SUV, not a race car, is it worth risking your expensive turbo and clutch ?
Not to mention the tune will be erased if the car is ever updated by audi, which it will during maintenance.
Car doesn’t have a turbo BTW. I also don’t plan on ever bringing it to a dealership, I’ve got a really good mechanic close by
Your apartment complex might have rules against working on your vehicle in the parking lot. Be careful.
True, I’ll look into my lease before attempting. Good thinking
