Comparing steam deck and PlayStation portal is not a fair comparison. One is a Linux based handheld and one is a streaming handheld.
The steam deck is a great device mostly for its price point and same could be said about the PlayStation portal.
The steam deck still cannot play lost ark and destiny 2 or any anti-cheat games. The steam deck can play most games though. Unfortunate windows handhelds like rog ally and legion go are superior devices because you have that windows compatibility that steam os is just not there yet.
As for PlayStation portal first off it is 200 bucks. People say you can just get a backbone and use iPhone or iPad but this is a dedicated device. You cannot get an iPad, android tablet, or iPhone and backbone for $200 bucks.
Yes I would love to see the next generation of PlayStation portal be able to play offline games. I also would like if valve could figure out the anti-cheat problem. Windows on steam deck is not officially supported so you are kinda at the mercy of the community.
$549 is a great price point, but it not significantly more powerful than the first model. Since most of my games are on PlayStation I will stick with portal for now. Besides Starfield and Lost Ark there not really any games I cannot play on PlayStation portal. Rarely am I in a circumstance where I do not have internet. I have a hotspot and really good connection at home. With only 512 gb you can only fit a handful games as well.
1TB is much better but I still found my self turning back to streaming games on game pass and PlayStation now on the legion go and steam deck so to me the portal just made more sense.
The PlayStation Portal is a more complete product at launch for what it claims to be. That was not true for the Deck.
The Deck OLED got a 9 from them.
Also review scores don’t matter.
Who is the Portal even for? It doesn’t even play games, it just streams your PS5, and in my experience, the PS streaming is fucking awful.
The Portal is good at what it’s designed to do. The Deck is good at what it’s designed to do. I see nothing wrong with these ratings.
It’s IGN
That’s all you really need to know
More than likely a reviewer that was compensated by Sony.
I give 5/7. A perfect score.
IGN. That’s enough to be said. There reviews are bought BS.
Who cares?
One word…China!!
raises hand the Portal isn’t a gaming system, its a remote screen. This is like comparing a PC monitor to a Playstation.
“scores sponsored by sony”
Advertising dollars make it pay to win
It’s $200… completely different device than the switch. Hardly comparable
Only the play station portal is basically an “add on” for PS5 I thought? Meaning it does not have stand alone gems and instead only can stream games.
