Comparing steam deck and PlayStation portal is not a fair comparison. One is a Linux based handheld and one is a streaming handheld.

The steam deck is a great device mostly for its price point and same could be said about the PlayStation portal.

The steam deck still cannot play lost ark and destiny 2 or any anti-cheat games. The steam deck can play most games though. Unfortunate windows handhelds like rog ally and legion go are superior devices because you have that windows compatibility that steam os is just not there yet.

As for PlayStation portal first off it is 200 bucks. People say you can just get a backbone and use iPhone or iPad but this is a dedicated device. You cannot get an iPad, android tablet, or iPhone and backbone for $200 bucks.

Yes I would love to see the next generation of PlayStation portal be able to play offline games. I also would like if valve could figure out the anti-cheat problem. Windows on steam deck is not officially supported so you are kinda at the mercy of the community.

$549 is a great price point, but it not significantly more powerful than the first model. Since most of my games are on PlayStation I will stick with portal for now. Besides Starfield and Lost Ark there not really any games I cannot play on PlayStation portal. Rarely am I in a circumstance where I do not have internet. I have a hotspot and really good connection at home. With only 512 gb you can only fit a handful games as well.

1TB is much better but I still found my self turning back to streaming games on game pass and PlayStation now on the legion go and steam deck so to me the portal just made more sense.
