Does your daily driver have any interior rattles or squeaks? Does it not bother you? Do you just turn on the radio? Just wondering how it is for most folks.

I’ve torn the entire dash out of multiple cars to chase down rattles/squeaks. Turning the radio up only goes so far.

On stuff that’s really old it’s just part of the experience.

My old FR-S would rattle like a USGI 1911A1, but I couldn’t really hear it over the loud music and the shrieking tires.

    Abso-freaking-lutely.

I have torn car interiors down to the bare metal to find offending noises. Sometimes they’re caused by crazy stuff, like on one 92 BMW 525i where a creak in the rear parcel shelf was being caused by two sheets of metal where the spot welds had popped (from hard driving and chassis flex). I had to sit in the bare metal rear seat area of the car while a friend drove me around some intentionally awful roads while I poked everything. I drilled a bunch of holes and used some bolts to fasten the sheetmetal together, problem solved.

My current daily driver is a 2003 BMW 530i with 316,000 miles, and it thankfully does not have a single rattle or squeak. I religiously condition/lubricate the rubber door seals with Gummi Pflege, lubricate the latches and hinges with white lithium grease, and condition the leather seats, all to reduce squeaking. The other day I noticed my clutch pedal was starting to creak when depressed, so I took off the kick panel and lubricated all the pivot points, it’s nice and quiet now.

The key is to stay on top of the rattles and squeaks, because if I let them accumulate I get angry and end up selling the car. Wind noise is also a big no-no, I have to have the windshield sealed up perfectly and the window + sunroof seals need to be perfect so I can drive 90mph in complete silence.

Next up is replacing all 4 wheel bearings because I’m starting to be able to hear them at certain speeds and that bothers me.

I hate rattles, they ruin my driving experience.

I’ve used quite a bit of energy on fixing rattles on the shitty cars I can afford.

Chassis creaks I also hate, but they are harder to fix.

I’ve practically given up after 5 years of enduring it with my ‘19 Jetta. I won some battles but I definitely lost the war. I’ll just have to make sure my next car doesn’t have it.

Hate it, glad my car doesn’t have any. Drove a car not to long ago that started to rattle everywhere when there was to much bass in a song and it killed the whole music

Audi quoted me $450 an hour to diagnose a rattle in my door on the R8

I liked driving with the windows down more anyways

Not too much. I don’t like it but I am not some weird anal freak about it. I have better things to do with my time, and I also have a diamond audio amp and components to help. The amp and sub also help.

I always pack my truck a few days before any road trip and drive it to work so I can take care of any gear rattling. I will not drive with a rattle, I have to fix it.

My last car had speaker rattle and I had the dealer take the doors apart to fix it because I hated it so much.
