Okay, so I’m in the city of Houston Texas. I’m exiting the highway at the speed limit which was 45mph. As I approach the traffic light, it’s green. It didn’t just turn green, it wasn’t turning red anytime soon, it had been green and remained green as I approached the intersection. Then right before I approach the intersection, an emergency vehicle (with flashing lights) zooms from the left side of the intersection giving me less than a second to react. So I slam my brakes but still manage to collide with the rear of the vehicle. Their vehicle lands on its side, my vehicle becomes totaled. By the Grace of God they had no patient and every responder inside was alive and well. Law enforcement arrives to the scene and gives me a ticket for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle (as well as having expired plates which I will admit to being 100% at fault for). In the mail, I received my charges and it looks like they would be fees totaling almost $1,000 but I truly believe that I am innocent in all of this. Although they did have their sirens on, they are STILL supposed to yield when approaching a red light to ensure that it’s safe to pass which they did NOT do. And it clearly was NOT safe to for them to pass as I was approaching the intersection. There are also cameras at the location (hopefully they work and were on at the time of this), but I’m curious to see what everyone’s thoughts are about this.
Driving with expired plates. The vehicle should not have been operated on the road.
Oh dont worry I was hit by a firetruck but they tried to blame me.
Question: When you say their sirens were on, were both the audio and lights going? I had a friend get harassed years ago for not yielding to an emergency vehicle. The siren was blasting but the lights weren’t flashing and they couldn’t tell where it was coming from.
Your at fault bud u need to stop for emergency vehicles period don’t bother with a lawyer ur gonna lose the battle even if ur light is green u have ti stop for emergency vehicles
Not at all ill go with what Google states civilians are not special brither u have to stop emergency vehicles have the right kf way no matter wat
How does a car land on its side when hit from the back? Also you had one second the react? Pretty sure you’ll hear siren sounds before seeing the actual car unless the sounds were off. Sounds like you were too slow to proces everything what resulted in you hitting the car.
Challange it. Its the dutybof the firstvreponders to ensure safe passage before crossing intersections. If they just sped through thats on them. Hope you got a dash camera

Ambulance driver is at fault. It’s called “driving with due regard for public safety.” The use of sirens and warning lights does not automatically give the right of way to the emergency vehicle. These devices simply request the right of way from the other drivers.
The ambulance driver must clear the intersection before proceeding. He/she did not, especially against a red light. You should 100% fight this ticket, and you will absolutely win.

Sirens override lights. No, they are not supposed to yield. You weren’t paying enough attention. Your fault.
No they don’t. Yes they are. We can’t tell that. We don’t know that.
The emergency vehicle has the duty to clear the intersection before entering it.
This must be a law in Texas because other places I must stop for emergency vehicles period no matter wat if u crash into them ur at fault automatically like in California for exmaple
