How come the Supra engine which is half the size of the corvette engine exceed it just with a tune? The Supra engine has big gains but if you tuned the corvette engine it isn’t that much. Just based on what I saw doing some google searches. What is different about the engines?
If you’re looking to throw up big numbers, you’re comparing forced induction vs natural aspiration. Factory turbo on the Supra runs out of breath once you start getting in the high 400s, while the 'vette is just getting started. If you’re somebody who enjoys revving a car all the way out for the performance, the C7 will a much more improved experienced.
The Supra can make low 400s on pump gas with a basic OTS ^(off the shelf) tune and a downpipe. Adding mild ethanol E30 brings you to around 460whp, and going the full E50 pushes that right up to 500whp. Either way, as long as you stay on the factory turbo, the boost absolutely runs headfirst into a wall at 5500rpm, with a 6800rpm redline…
Anything more requires either adding port injection (so you’re now dual injected), and/or replacing the turbo with a top/bottom mount unit. Transmission explodes at 650wtq, most people push it up to 620, while 600 is considered “safe”. The factory turbo is a pretty limiting factor on the Supra, being somewhat on the smaller side, but giving it wallops of torque when you’re tooling around town.
Stock, C7’s will push around 410whp & 410wtq. The LT1 doesn’t have as much “free” power like the old LSx did with just a simple cam and headers, but LMR offers a Heads&Cam package that brings you to 550whp/475wtq with a power delivery that will pull all the way to redline.
Hell, a Mustang with the Coyote and an E85 tune is already putting you around 460-480whp just from the tune and running E85.

The answer is similar to why I bought a MK IV GTI 1.8T over a VR6. With software the turbocharged engine increases boost and you get way more power than tuning a NA motor.
Plus whooshy turbo noises and low-end torque which is more suited for daily driving.
