You know the story, it’s probably similar to yours, I fell in love with Porsche, in particular the 911, at an early age. I’ve been a car enthusiast for as long as I can remember and I’ve had my fair share of fun to drive vehicles over the years (AMG’s, M3, Subarus, modded Hondas, turbo LS trucks, etc.). The 911 has always been just out of my reach. As my career has grown and my business expanded I am now in a position where I can buy one. Since 2020 I’ve lusted after a 992 C2S in Gentian Blue. After going to PECLA a few times I nearly made that hefty financial decision about 18 months ago, I even signed the contract for a private party sale only for the seller to back out last minute.

Now today I am about 12 months away from comfortably affording a 992. The downside? This would put a damper on any sort of exterior remodeling that the wife and I have been talking about for our home. I can’t have a 992, a pool, and a putting green at the same time. I could however find an older 911 and enjoy that while accomplishing the other things. Naturally I find myself looking online and I came across this beauty. https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/1121090-1979-911sc-coupe.html The minimal amount of research I’ve done shows that this car is priced pretty close to right and is in great shape. I know next to nothing about the G body cars but I really like this one. I would likely buy this, sell a car to make space (my 09 GX470 beater), and enjoy it while performing the house work and likely saving up for another, newer 911. Am I crazy to think that adding this to the fleet would be a good idea? One that would add smiles for miles? What do I need to know about the G body?

I love the idea of how raw, visceral, natural and real an older 911 could be. Our M3 Comp is a quick precision machine. I want something that smells a bit and makes me feel alive, even if it does 0-60 in 5 seconds. What does /r/porsche think?
