Have a 2021 m340 x drive that popped 2 tires Thursday. I drove it home, it was around 1.5 miles from my house. Finally got time to take it to the shop, can I drive the car there?
Run flats are made exactly for this, to give you time to drive to the shop to repair it. As long as you don’t drive fast or for a long time you will be fine
I was just making sure that since it’s been sitting for like 4 days it’s still good to drive. Thank you
Are you sure about the term “repair it”? Generally running the runflat tire ruins the tyre. It gets you to the tire shop, but to replace the tyre, not repair it.
Generally get about 50 miles out of a run flat after it’s punctured
Keep in mind that run flats will indeed safely run flat, but often will ruin the tire just like a standard tire.
Had a flat tire few weeks ago with my run flats, drove 15km with 0.9 bar in them , tire got repaired , all good still ok to drive
I had a similar situation a few months back. One observation is that while you’re driving the rubber will be warm and thus reasonably pliable. As long as you keep driving after the puncture it’s no problem.
Once parked overnight they will cool and harden. I drove like that to the dealer to get them replaced but it was a lot less comfortable and felt more ‘squidgy’ for want of a better term.
Safe to do it but just take it real easy and adapt following distances and corner speeds accordingly.
I was on a road trip vacation this summer when I ran over a bungee that punctured my tire. Drove around 30 miles on the flat at highway speeds searching for a shop to repair my tire on a Sunday since BMW roadside won’t do anything for runflats. Ended up plugging it myself, filling with air and driving over 2k miles that week.
As long as the sidewall isn’t torn from a pothole, absolutely no worries. The tires are engineered to dissipate the heat from driving on a flat.
Are you hoping to repair or replace the tires? If you’re looking to repair them, get a tow truck or a compressor. If you’re just getting new tires, I guess you can go for it.
Yeah I’m planning to just replace it. The entire sidewalk is ruptured. No fixing them, I just wanted to make sure I can still drive on them after they’ve been sitting for that long. Thank you
You can’t safely repair a runflat.
You can absolutely patch a run flat as long as the sidewall hasn’t been compromised.
