Leno was the most upvoted GK aheads of the likes of Ramsdale, Woj, Ospina, Cech, etc. It was great to see so many people fond of Leno. This guy along Auba saved us so many embarrassment during our peak crisis. Definitely one of my favorite players!

      I love Leno.

I’m old school to the point where I still believe in specialisation - in that a GKs primary trait should be shot stopping. Leno has been the best for that since the Jens or Seaman days.

Sure you should be competent and confident on the ball these days. Personally I think the tactical emphasis on GKs having this trait are overblown. If we had Will + Gabi XL during his days. I still think we build from the back fine with Leno. But I think Leno was decent at the on the ball traits anyway.

I personally don’t think we concede 90% of the silly and points costly goals we’ve conceded the last 2 seasons with Bernd in the sticks.

We maybe have 5 to 10% less goals sue to distribution, but I take that trade off.

Fun initiative OP. And I understand you want discussion like this in here, but your current top comment currently is a good suggestion noting the limitations of upvoting comments and how there are better ways to run this exercise (eg poll or survey to select the player).

We’re going to end up with an odd best 11 if you stick with this process.

Either him or Tomiyasu. I don’t know if this is recency bias,…but I don’t think we had such an impactful RB since 2010. I know Bellerin and Sagna were good, but what these 2 current players offer (on the ball, moving foward, defensively, passing, control) is something else.

I think Sagna in many ways was a more mature and better Tomiyasu. Trustworthy, plays his role, does whatever he’s asked to do as far as build-up, attacking or anything that’s not defending adequatly; but an absolute monster when defending. Large, fast, agile *and* disciplined is one hell of a combination.

Ben White might fit Arteta’s plan better than Sagna does/did, but Sagna was a better player and overall more impactfull.

Ben White is my favourite player in this current team and even I voted for Sagna. It’s not even close. Dude carried that defense for years and basically in every position.

All through those years I felt a kind of calmness when I saw his name on the teamsheet. Big premier league fixtures, European away matches, whatever. I just felt like it was going to be okay with Sagna on the pitch.

Because our defense was dogshit for like ten years except kos mert pairing, Benny would have carried it too

That’s funny because I was a big Sagna fan and he never got a lot of credit around here as being a really top player, and he got even less credit with other fan bases. I remember people saying that he wasn’t at that elite level because he couldn’t cross. I thought his crossing was decent. Just seems like the prescription of him really changed around here.

Trying to remember how much Sagna played in the 2010’s… Would have had 3-4 seasons of him I guess… So yeah would probably go with Sagna

Depends on the tactics. Bellerin was a liability on set pieces and long balls. Personally I’d go with White. Better overall.
