Feel like there should be a post on here for what we all know is the reason why Aaron isn’t being selected.
He gave an interview, in which he said that he and mikel came to a compromise over his positioning. He didn’t want to play as forward as mikel wanted because he wasn’t comfortable. So, Mikel leaves that meeting thinking he’s got to get a new keeper. In comes Raya.
Also, this interview with Wright where he’s talking about he can’t concentrate a full 90 minutes? I get it, especially since we play possession based football but to actually admit that is crazy. Like just don’t say that at all. Because it definitely doesn’t look good when you watch his fail comp and you’re thinking “well apparently he doesn’t pay attention the whole time. Wonder if that’s why we conceded.”

I think the not being able to concentrate for 90 minutes thing is a problem precisely because we play posession based football, Arteta wants him to be a real sweeper keeper and change his positioning depending on which areas of the pitch we have the ball, which requires constant attention from ramsdale. Arteta also spoke about how he was really happy with Raya playing it short & out of the press after the city game, wheras ramsdale loooves to go long, so that’s probably part of the problem too.
Completely agree that all the press/podcast stuff ramsdale loves to do has done him zero favours too.
I agree 100%. Mikel wants the keeper to do certain things and there are no compromises.
